New traffic reporter on WEWS

Nearly a year after firing Alicia Roberts, and having morning anchors Mike Dunston and Macie Jepson doing traffic duties, WEWS has hired Jamie Zabielski from News 12 in Long Island to become their new traffic reporter.

Here's a sample of her work on News 12, so you can see what we're gonna be getting on "Good Morning Cleveland" beginning January 2.

It's Jackie Zabielski, and she's done other cable work in NY and NJ. Nice that WEWS has hired someone to take over the duties.

Speaking of Alicia, she's now in Chicago, but not in broadcasting. She must've needed a break after Channel 5.

Best of luck now to Jackie.

You're right, it's Jackie not Jamie...my bad.

Anyone else noticing a recent trend, that the local stations are pushing their traffic reporters as major stars these days.

WJW went into overdrive with Kristi Capel, which ultimately led to getting her promoted to the third spot on the couch with Wayne and Stefani. WEWS was doing the same with Alicia Roberts before whatever it was that led to her dismissal, and WOIO introduced Ashley Johncola with much balleyhoo.

WKYC is the exception to this recent trend, using WTAM's Pat Butler for their reports instead of having their own in-house reporter.

Just an observation.

And a good observation too.

Kristi was originally hired to be a meteorologist, but ended up with the traffic gig along with co-hosting "New Day Cleveland," right after Robin Swoboda left 8. She's proven to be a great personality, where I can see 8 promoting the heck out of her. I don't know if Patty Harken is getting the same type of promotion, but she's good as well.

Alicia also got to fill-in as an anchor during the holidays last year, and I do remember seeing the commercials with her for "GMC." It was a shock to see her gone after a few months. She lasted shorter than Trisha Skidmore, another traffic reporter who was promoted a lot (circa 2007) than disappeared after less than a year.

Ashley's pretty good as well. I can see her advancing into another role at 19/43 like Jen Piccano, who's now a key reporter for Action News.
