I cut the cord about a year ago. For some reason, Channel 8 is the toughest to pick up with an antenna. Both VHF channels (Channel 8 on RF channel 8 and Channel 11 on RF channel 10) are the toughest, but WXIA is a lot easier to pick up than WGTV.
I was south of the 101.1 transmitter today in Lithonia and Conyers and the station sounds much better down there than north/west/east of the transmitter. Must be directional towards the south.
Those who have been in Atlanta for a while will remember the horrible WABE signal from Stone Mountain. WABE spent a rumored $1M (yes...a million $$) to "fix" the signal. After almost a year there was no consensus as to what the problem was or how to resolve it. WABE finally left Stone Mountain for the WVEE/WSTR/WSB-FM tower off DeKalb Ave. which "fixed" the coverage problems.
Channel 8 has a terrible OTA signal from up there as others have noted.
On paper, the mountain looks like a great site but there is something that prevents effective RF propagation.
