New translator on 94.1

Appears Vida Vision Network has a new station (translator) on 94.1. First spotted with a weak signal in the Woodlands this morning; signal got better in the car as I drove back to the Cy-Fair area. Listenable signal at my house.

Looks like this is the former K217DP translator, which has a CP to move to 94.1, 35 watts at 100 meters from a tower near the intersection of the Grand Parkway and West Bellfort.

The station is not listed yet on the Vida Vision coverage page: http://www.radiovida.vision/#!cobertura-texas/cmi4 but that page does show KNLY 91.1 in New Waverly. The programming on 94.1 matches the Vida Vision webstream. The coverage list also has 104.5 listed for Houston, but I don't think that station (K284BX) is on the air yet...will transmit from a site just north of Alvin with 250 watts at 304 meters. Vida Vision has a number of stations in six states.

TOH ID given for KNLY and KQVI. No ID's for any of the translators.

There is a LPFM CP for 94.1 in SE Houston, which I thought this might be at first...but that station has yet to be granted call letters, and I don't think it would reach The Woodlands anyway.

There has been some dead air at times while listening, so it appears they are still working on the audio link to the transmitter. Looks like they are using an Internet feed, as the OTA is synchronous with the webstream.

I've got nothing @ 45 & the North Belt, Frog. Just a static laden KQXY, which is typical of 94-1 over here. Must be leapfrogging me altogether if it's reaching The Woodlands. Cypress-Fairbanks I get, as it's coming at you from just south of Cinco Ranch, but catching it in The Woodlands yet not a peep from the translator down here in North Houston? I guess I'd be miffed if it were airing programming of interest to me. That's funny, K217DP was off the air for a long time. Matter of fact, it died around the time KPVU upgraded. That's been several years now. I wonder how that license stayed active all this time.

Come on now Purple... Broadcasters always get a STA when they're silent. They never lie on FCC paperwork...... Ah hahahahahaha!

But 94.1 has a remarkable good signal. I had lunch with our church secretary at Kellys Country Cookin in Stafford and caught 94.1 clear as day. It stayed with me all the way up the west loop and I still hear it now at 45 and W Little York. They went quiet about half an.hour ago. Still broadcasting in stereo but just dead air.

Yeah, how silly of me to think this one might be a legitimate broadcasting property. Truthfully, that was said with tongue firmly planted in cheek.

Might I suggest Angie's Country Kitchen @ West 34th/Kempwood & Hempstead Hwy.? It's an absolute hole in the wall, but man does it serve a mean plate of food. Got to get there before 3, as that's closing time, but well worth the drive. The new 94-1 translator should have a steady, decent signal at this location, if you're so inclined to have some background noise with your meal.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's clear, Señor Tejano, but it is definitely there at BW8 & the North Freeway. Boy, we're really losing touch with our neighbors to the east. The stations Houston didn't just outright steal from Beaumont, are simply being covered up by translators now. First KYKR, then KIOC, and now KQXY.

...and there's still a new 102-5 in DT Houston soon to come online, which will bid adieu to Magic paying us regular visits.

Tonight this station made me wonder something. Are they doing something illegal here now?? On 91.1 they were playing some Christian Salsa Rhythm song, on 94.1 It was a Christian Banda song. I thought 94.1 was a translator, and learning from yall they're supposed to have the same programming right??

Mr. Tejano... Yes, one is supposed to be repeating the other. When I was still friendly with Don Werlinger, he mentioned his involvement helping them get the translator back on. The translator license involved here was donated to the Hispanic church by Best Media in New York. Donated because, by law, the license is worthless. When a station is off the air longer than 12 months, by operation of law its cancelled. But as long as nobody complains, the FCC takes a broadcaster's word that they have not been silent over 12 months. And broadcaster's never lie, do they...?

Yes they're supposed to have the same programming.
If 91.1 is running HD, the translator can retransmit the HD signals. If 91.1 is not HD though and it really is playing different programming than it's translator, it's totally illegal.

Wow, so Don Werlinger ripped off this Hispanic church too. :(

Is this K231CN? Might wanna let the church involved know they've been tricked... If they were to simulcast the stations maybe they'd be legal.

I live at N. Shepherd and 43rd/Crosstimbers and I'm getting a strong enough signal to stop the seek in my car. I'm also getting a listenable signal on a tabletop radio on the 2nd floor of my house. It was also almost interference free as I was driving through downtown after work.

I don't see how this translator can be operating at its licensed facilities and be putting this type of signal into downtown & northern Houston...

I just listened to this 94.1 610 and MLK all the way to West Bellfort and South Post Oak staticy but listenable the whole way. Some of these location reports yall are reporting be able to pick up the station are making me think they could be running double or triple the power they are allowed to run.

It's definitely not clear up here in north Houston, dj. KQXY fights it constantly. I can null out KQXY and keep a steady signal from the Barker translator, but I'm really interested to see what KLTR does to this thing when it finally moves to Hempstead and starts throwing more of a signal into Houston.

This map shows their licensed 60 db contour. As everyone has discovered, it can be received all over Houston. Given the particular engineer who set the equipment up and his propensity to lie and cheat -- just like he did with 95.1, 106.1, etc. -- it's probably a safe bet its running a lot more power than its supposed to be...

I would not be surprised if this station is running 75 to 100 watts with the allowed power they should be running range should be 4 to 8 miles car radio
