New Translator On the Air, Hughesville-Muncy

WCOZ (Cozy radio in Laporte-Dushore and Tunkhannock) recently signed on a new FM translator to cover Hughesville and Muncy on 103.5 MHz in Hughsville with 10 watts facing south-southwest. It's located atop Frantz Hill near Hughesville (the computer really likes this site). It's atop a very tall barn roof at the very peak of this hill. Had to rent a super tall cherry picker to get it up there (scarry to say the least!). He seems good in Hughesville and Muncy with a little splatter at times from 103.7 in Lewisburg. Already have a reception report from Montoursville. Got it on for the Lycoming Fair week (fairgrounds in Hughesville). By the way...it does not transmit or receive interference to WKAB; the translator site is below the mountain that runs between Hughesville and Lairdsville blocking interference from one another. I'd love some reception reports.

You know you're in Hughesville when your translator is on a barn...

Tom,

You have the best sense of humor!!! The cows in the barn were quite upset and were mooing loudly during the install!! (If I had only a video camera....oooo Jim T from FLN stopped by with his Spectrum Analyzer...I think he took a couple of digital stills!). Incredible as it may seem....this is the big city compared to Laporte and Dushore!

I was on a cruise in Alaska once and was chatting with a guy. Asked him where he was from. "Williamsport PA" was the answer.

Long thoughtful pause on my part. "Williamsport. Huh. Williamsport." Pause again. "Is that anywhere near Hughesville?"

Guy says, "Cut that out!" I admit to being from WB and we both have a good laugh.<P ID="signature">______________

First I heard of Cozy radio. Will check it out next time I'm in the area.

I see the website says AC hits from the 60's through today. Is Cozy playing rare soft AC tunes from the likes of the Carpenters, Fifth Dimension, Barbara Streisand, Olivia Newton John, etc., or is it more mainstream?

As most everyone knows, I have a soft spot for artists similar to the ones above, and it seems the only spot you can hear them are on Westwood One nostalgia affiliates, or stations like the WDUV in Tampa, FL. WNAK does this a little bit in Scranton, but they lean more on the big band material. My soft spot are 70's and early 80's soft AC.

Friday evening, Aug. 5th, around 8pm, I was getting it, kind of spotty, in downtown Williamsport. On my way home later that night, I picked it up strong on most of I-180 East.

It DID interfere with WKAB for a couple miles just north of Allenwood on 15north, but both signals were so weak, it wouldn't make a diff. I picked it up better in South W'msport than I did on the north side of the river, but the topography and buildings probably had something to do with that.

Kevin,

Checked it out. Are you sure that you're running only 10 watts?

The Golden Strip in Loyalsock Township is the furtherest point to the West. Which in my book is doing good. It would not stop on scan; but, you can dial right to it on my 1990 Chevy Pickup radio.

To the South, it won't go past the Muncy bridge near Montgomery.

I haven't tried to the North or East yet.

Contact me sometime at [email protected]. Maybe, you could give me a few suggestions on a project I'm working on.

Sam
