New Triple-A For The IE?

There's talk of a format flip to AAA in the Riverside-San Bernardino market. If I hear it right, it's not the station you'd think might be flipping. Has anyone else caught a similar buzz?

What station do you think we think it would be?? You mean X103.9 FM?? Or KCAL 96.7?

The ethnic of that marketplace seems like it fits like a glove - that would be a smart move ... NOT!!!

Actually the market's heavy Hispanic tilt makes a move to an older nonethnic format really smart. You just can't win in Riverside-San Bernadino if you're programming to nonethnic men under the age of 35, and really, 45-54 is where it's at. Also, despite the fact that outsiders see the market as nothing but white trash, the fact is that a ton of LA and OC County residents have relocated to Riverside County in particular, making the market ripe for just this kind of move.

You are right that the market tilts non-ethnic older. But why would someone go Triple A? It's a niche format... Money-wise 35-44 is where it's at.

KSCA as a Triple-A sure did not impress in the IE.

Most rock formats get a decent Hispanic share, but AAA is the least Hispanic friendly of all Rock formats. I think that it would never work there.

You mean that anything in a market with 50+ signals in it isn't a niche format at this point? Unless someone wants to try to take on KGGI or K-Frog, and you've seen how well that works out, a niche format that appeals to 35-49 adults with a strong qualitative profile might make a lot of sense. That's extra true if you consider what that one person pointed out as far as higher-income Orange County types moving into the market. You mean that because a badly done KSCA didn't work out over a decade ago, somebody else isn't going to do it better now and make it work? You only need a 2 share to make good money in Riverside if it's the right 2 share.
