New TX log 12/4/14

Another X-bander, to boot.

1620 - WTAW College Station, TX; heard with mention of "athletics on WTAW", and weather forecast, ID "NewsTalk 1620 WTAW" at 2206 PT 12/04. NEW #664, 1000W, 1696 miles! A very nice X-Band log. Not too long ago I also had Radio Rebelde on 1620 for a new one, so two new 1620s in a short span of time.

I was able to log that one last year during a rare time when local KYIZ 1620 had an evening of computer malfunctions.

Your time mention....2206 PT?? I take it local and not Zulu?? (in other words 10:06PM PST?) Just wanted to be sure...and that it wasnt 2206 UTC which would likely still had WTAW on 10KW day power)

Amazing how 1KW carrier has good skywave at night when the channel is clear..I do hear the 10KW day signal of WTAW (though weak) 150-200 miles away at the TX/La Border in the daytime but never the nightsignal...not bad considering the ground conductivity there.

I DO hear the 1700s in Brownsville and DFW battling it out in SE TX at night...add in several more and we could have a Class C simulation ;)

Yes, this was 10:06PM Pacific time (or 12:06AM CT).
1620 is not really a quiet channel - KYIZ and KSMH love to swap with each other out here. Rebelde and WTAW are new logs on this frequency logged in the past week. There are 3 other 1620s to try for - WDND IN, KOZN NE and WNRP FL. KOZN might be possible at sunrise or late at night. WDND may be possible when eastern conditions are really really good. WNRP is almost impossible.
