Just kidding but have you all noticed that La Tremenda 1270 am from DFW is Tropo tunneling ( Thats what is called right?) Well I could hear it all day today. Just wanted to share this with you!!
Tropo ducting or scatter would be on FM. Distant reception on AM during the day would be from residual skywave, which is not uncommon during the winter months, especially at the higher end of the band. Also, widespread rain can help ground conductivity, thus enhancing the groundwave signal.
KFLC runs 50kw during the daytime. One of their pattern lobes slightly favors the southeast.

In AM, all night skip is via reflection from the ionosphere. There are occasions where the skip is directional, or even unidirectional... causes may be things like the aurora borealis, sunspots, etc.
In deep winter, we occasionaly get daytime ionospheric reflection, particularly around the noon hour. It is not common. My best reception was 4VEC 1035 AM from Haiti in northern Ohio at about 11 AM in January in the early 60's... about 2000 miles in the daytime.
