New Urban AC in Myrtle Beach?

Hear Quantum flipping 107.1 the Sound. Harvey in the Morning and either Doug Banks or Michael Baisden in afternoon. WDAI could take a hit.

Link please? If this is true it wouldn't be a bad idea for 107.1 to go that route. The Sound really never made it. If they went Urban AC with Steve Harvey in the morning it would be huge. KissFM would be scared. Look at how well he is doing in Charleston and Charlotte on both Apex's Star 99.7 and CBS Radio's V 101.9. Would be a win win for Quantum if they did this.

It was on All Access as well as Qantum buying BOB FM.

Some big news in Myrtle Beach, lol. 107.1 going Urban AC is a great something finally to compete with 98.5 KISS-FM.

I was doing a search on this and came across the Wikipedia site. It has some changes for the Cumulus stations. Not sure if their true. But it says WSEA Hot 100.3 will become part of ESPN The Team Myrtle Beach. It also says K Country is going to be Hot 103 Blazin Hip Hop as a Rhythmic format and 98.5 KISS-FM will go Urban AC. Which means all the hip hop and rap will be on Hot 103 I guess.

Is that Cumulus information really going to happen?

The Cumulus change has got to be a joke. If they really had those changes in mind, they certainly wouldn't have it posted in "wikipedia" first. They'd do the changes first, then we'd be reading about it in all access or some other industry trade.

I know the information would have to be in a industry website. But reading that information doesn't sound like a bad idea for Cumulus to do.

ridiculous

wasn't 107.1 at point in time, back in the 90's 107-1 The Shark and played classic rock?...or am i thinking of a different station and/or market ..?

Yes it was. Good Luck to Qantum with the newest format change for 107.1! Wish I could have done more with the ratings in 2006-2007 during my PD stint.

Ironically, 107.1 was one of the first FM urbans in SC. Back in the mid 70s, WCIG/107.1 was licensed to Mullins. After the huge success of the Big DM (and yes, DM had listeners as far east as MYB) a few other broadcasters tried to cash in. 3000 watt CIG, co-owned with the local AM and a relatively new station, went R&B and gospel. It was live and local, and really a very amateur operation. CIG could not compete with WYNN-AM or DM, and the signal didn't even make it to MYB. Urban only lasted a few years. Much later, the 107.1 license was transferred to the big city of Briarcliff Acres, I believe.

Actually, I could pick up WCIG sometimes in my motel room. And I even remember picking it up at home during the right weather conditions. They mixed in gospel music as well, and I remember a station ID for THE FM, which could have been THEE FM if they were doing enough of the religious programming, I suppose.

In 1995 there were billboards and Sun News ads for Mega Hits 107.1 The Shark with John Boy and Billy mornings. The Sun News article said they would evolve based on what was popular at the time. It was Hot AC to start, then modern rock (not active rock). They shared their transmitter site with WKZQ but were lower down on the tower, and they had a translator because their signal in Myrtle Beach wasn't the best. Okay, maybe just my motel room.

It's pretty pathetic when you have to go to the Wikipedia article that you wrote (except for recent updates) to recall details.

Okay, the station was "rock oldies" as "The Fox" and then "Classic Rock That Really Rocks". Somewhere along the line John Boy moved to Pirate 100.

I had to go to another Wikipedia article I wrote to find out I got the name of the station at 100.3 wrong! :D
