NEW URBAN COMING TO LAFAYETTE

Classic country is on AM in Lafayette and I think pittman is too conservative to do Urban. What lafayette needs is a hot new CHR station, perhaps on a 100kw signal like 102.1 KQIS so that it can mop the floor with KSMB. But again i think the owners of 102.1 are too conservative to do CHR right.

The Crowley group may put an urban AC on one of their 6000 watt stations. That's the talk right now. KRKA was supposed to mop up KSMB but after four years it's still there and making money. The station as huge 18-34 numbers. The morning show slammed KRKA's 100,000 watt trainwreck morning show with a 13 share. The station is buzzing right now. If KRKA can barely put a dent in them how is a weak attempt at CHR by the Crowley boys going to work? They need to stick to what they are doing, spend some dollars and market 102.1 and go hard full speed ahead and demolish KTDY. There are more dollars there than if they go CHR. That would be a losing battle out of the box. :-X

Sooner or later, the people of Acadiana are going to realize that Bobby Novasad is 60 years old (alright, maybe he's 55) and shouldn't be on AM Drive or Programming a CHR. The man was clueless 15 years ago and he wins by default. Although I agree that Lafayette couldn't support 2 CHRs.

Novasad is a joke. Regent and Citadel are jokes. Neither has the money to properly promote any of their brands.

The 2nd biggest AM Drive joke is KXKC. Scott and KC are horrible. They are leading to the demise of a legendary station.

KQIS will also be a tertiary station and never get more than a 2.5 12+ and barely crack the top 10 in their primary demos.

RUMORS ARE CIRCULATING THAT LAFAYETTE WILL HAVE A NEW URBAN...AND PERHAPS, CLASSIC COUNTRY MAY BE GOING AWAY...

If it's a direct replacement of the existing "classic country" station in Laffy, then it would be KFXZ-FM 105.9 owned by Pittman Broadcasting.

Last I heard, the AM 1520 in their building was classic country up until a year ago when they flipped it to Fox Sports radio.

I couldn't imagine a change to urban in the Pittman building anymore than I could imagine one at the station group in Crowley.

what's so funny is 105.9 was originally a classic country station but has morphed into a classic pittman country station. One playing today and yesterday with some very forgotten stuff or never heard of stuff (such as "This ole' Wheel by Shooter Jennings which is not heard elsewhere)

However the station favors North Lafayette and Opelousas more than it would Downtown and the college area.

If I'd expect a Pittman, I'd expect KYMK 106.3 which is part of the too many a/c and hot a/c stations currently in Lafayette (99.9,102.1,107.1)

106.3 was urban AC KFXZ for quite some time while it was a Citadel property. Seems like the logical place from a historical perspective. From a signal perspective, if it were to be urban AC, I would go with 105.9. It was a successful urban AC "The Touch" as KVOL in the 80s & 90s. The 105.9 signal will provide better coverage to a larger portion of the potential urban audience in northern Lafayette parish and the Opelousas area.

I can confirm there will be a change coming very soon on 105.9 KFXZ. It will be an Urban format with Tom Joyner (mornings), Carl Thibodaux (middays) and Keith Sweat (nights).

By the way, "This Ol' Wheel" was one of 105.9's most requested songs! Thats right, all 7 listeners!!!
