New Urban Station in Charlotte

If it's Radio One, they're giving it another try given that Hot 92.7 didn't do well back then. Not to mention the shuffling of formats and intellectual props between freqs and CPs.

I think it's a good idea. as good as Power 98 is, and even though I don't like the music, Charlotte needs a real hip-hop station.

What's the problem with Power 98? Isn't one Hip Hop Station good enough...?!. I mean, if there was another one needed - I'd think it should be Kiss 95.1. They overlap too much with Channel 96.1.

I think people have said Power 98 is a mix of hip-hop and urban AC. Which is strange considering the presence of WBAV.

Ain't gonna happen since Power and Kiss are both under CBS. Too bad CC did not care about 96.1 The Beat (rhythmic) no more after its initial success and topping Power in ratings once. But if Kiss were to go that route, more than likely they can take cues from Wild 94.9 in San Francisco; play 70% hip hop and let the other 30% of the music be pop, electro and dance.

Normally I don't give much weight to Shawty's "rumors", but I think she could have something this time. Radio One just finished upgrading their signal, and WHTA in Atlanta has had some recent ratings success. If there was a time for something to happen, this would be it.

Finally, it's about time they split up 92.7 and 100.9...completely overlapping signals.
Sounds like 100.9 would get the new format.

Given its location, I would think smooth jazz. Most of the black people are on the north and west sides, and 100.9 would have a better signal on the south and east sides. Not that its signal has been a problem so far, but with hip-hop, you'd defitiely want a better signal than you would need for gospel.

On the other hand, the yuppies living in south Charlotte and around UNCC would probably go for smooth jazz.

Sad but true. Maybe some crazy station will have the guts to try it. Well I can dream...

not real at all, I kinda followed the station and knew it was fake from the start, the guy in question's facebook page has gone silent and hasnt been updated in over 2 weeks

I think this was another false "rumor" by Shawty. It's the 21st and still no promotion of any pending change.

I said "rumor" because I wasn't for sure if it was true so don't caim i started anything. RadioMixer, I had a long convo with ol'
dude about moving to Charlotte going head on with CBS and Radio One. I was told the station was going to be on a translator, but I never saw FCC info on it. He claimed they had call letters and even contracts to broadcast Rickey Smiley to Charlotte.

I didnt have a convo with him but I know several ppl that did, you cant put a signal up on a translator without a "parent", he was claiming 100,000 watts, he had this all over his facebook page, the frequency he selected would have been shortspaced with WWDM out of Columbia, not happening...you are right, no FCC info whatsoever but he was pulling the wool over a lot of "legit" radio ppl, its interesting how nobody at CBS was sweating it...cuz they already knew it wasnt real.

This has become a pattern with you though, Shawty. Your "rumors" are never real because you take what people say at face value. You should do your research and require evidence.

I thought it might be Radio One until I asked. The timing seemed perfect. Freshly upgraded signal on 92.7 and WHTA in Atlanta beating V103 for the first time in history. After speaking to staff and a few advertisers, I knew that wasn't happening and even WHY it wasn't happening.

There are no other owners who are going to attempt an urban station in this market right now. There are no pending sales of any stations. It's not going to happen.
