LOL! Nikki is coming from a great station, and I think she'll do a good job, but that post just cracked me up.

Anyway, best of luck Nikki! Hope B93.7 still sounds as awesome as it always has, even with you and Kobe leaving...

"Christian Positive"??? Some of us predicted long ago that KVIL would take a direct hit at KLTY, when KLTY started taking away some of their numbers. "Gene and Julie" looked like the first step in that direction (a syrup-y, saccharine, family-oriented morning show) and inclusion of those pathetic patriotic country songs~~the writing's definitely on the wall. And now a Christian music programmer, who knows the "safe" country and Christian songs and artists to play. I think we'll see an entirely different KVIL in the next few months. Again, Kurt and Company take more stabs in the dark as to what THEY think their listeners want. Those that get the weekly KVIL surveys via email keep getting the same list of songs to vote on every single time, and none of them are what me or my "target demo" 32 yr old wife want to hear.

The Nu KVIL moniker: K)hristian V)ariety is why I) L)isten!

Perhaps some soundbites of Bush speeches and frequent playing of the "Star Spangled Banner" could be added. Oh, and BIG doses of "Butterfly Kisses" and Tim McGraw are in order, too.

This is a prime example of what big corporate radio has become. Does anyone REALLY BELIEVE that "Nikkie Nite" from market (whatever-60? 61?) is going to be making any REAL decisions on her own at KVIL? Even Smokey couldn't do that and he was an Infinity veteran with a winning reputation until he got here! This is a case where you have a GM who was booted out of Clear Channel,(Purdy), our local JACK-power-tripper, Kurt Johnson, who couldn't fix KVIL either, that's why they had to find somewhere to put him, and the Sr.VP Strassel, who should be fired for NOT firing both of them a long time ago. This one tops anything Clear Channel has EVER done. (and that's not easy to do). By the way, congrats all around on those JACK numbers in New York. (#9 rank to #22 for those who haven't heard). They must love those "hand-picked" songs from KJ.--like a real bad rash.

Hey, you're talking about the illustrious "Kurtis J" from Milwaukee radio of long ago! He paid his dues with those 2 or 3 years of jocking in college radio. He knows all. Every market, every listener preference, every song, and knows how to MAKE MONEY for the stations!! Have faith (literally, or KVIL will show you the way and the light. Stay tuned.)

It'll be a long, tough tumble when somebody ever does get the b@lls to fire him. With a resume packed full of strikeouts and misfires, he won't be hireable in any market above #100. Even CC is not stupid enough to let him destruct their local cluster.

Here Comes Nikki Nite

[Eyes Rolling] Typical "I'm-So-Major-Market-And-You're-Not" remark. Greenville/Spartanburg (#59) is no Dallas but it's not Podunk either. Do you think she's using carts and manning the remote van? Do you think Infinity, Entercom or any large publicly traded company lets PDs make any decisions on their own? The days of the lone cowboy are long over. She knows the politics of corporate radio very well. Nikki is not only an exceptional programmer but a veteran of political infighting. The friendly smile serves as a distraction from her sharp elbows. She'll do fine.

Well, get off that bucking feminist high horse you're on, and your eyes will quit doing circles on you ... "chick".

Veep of Jack Programming

How would you like to have the title of "vice president - Jack Programming"?

He will have that for infinity ... or longer :).

So have some mercy on the guy.

We now know he's obviously clueless.

But is that HIS fault?

Funny. There was nothing "feminist" about my remarks. I was making fun of the "Major Market" superiority embedded in the remarks about Nikki. There are guys (and gals) out there with a 6 month PD gig for the 12th rated radio station in Detroit on their resume who will later crow about their "Major Market" experience.

It's actually a lot easier to go from the 59th market to the 5th than from the 5th to the 59th.

Nikki Nite is the PD for WFBC, Greenville's top CHR. The "Positive Christian" station was the brain fart of the GM who, along with David Field, created this hybrid freak mistake. Not willing to admit defeat when it is staring them in the face, they blew up the Oldies Station they just purchased from Barnstable and put "The Walk" on the superior signal. Dumb, egotistical and not Nikki Nite's doing. She was assigned to be PD of The Walk as a side job.

Oops. Forgot my happy face sticker ... it is now affixed.

Not available in all locations ...

And I sometimes say things for reactions ... especially women.

Come on ... come on ... Nikki, I was just foolin' around with ya.

Really?

Maybe mildly amusing.

Certainly not hilarious.

Well, again, maybe you're right.

But what kind of name is Nikki Nite for cryin' out loud?

Now The Batman. That's a different story.

And, what kind of format is country positive/religious ... or whatever it was or is?

But of course, the most important thing is ... what does the gal look like? Does she have the "corporate look"?

SOOOO important these days you know :)

Well, if they lived through hell or purgatory for six months, at least they should be allowed to put it on their resumes.

Or 51st to the 2nd ... and back ... up and down and all around.

None needed. I'm in radio. I'm not that thin-skinned. I dished it out, I can take it.

You don't know? You need to get out more. [Edited by chickontheradio after AbsoluteTruth suffered hyperventilation after seeing it. It was not, as Absolute Truth, would AbsolutelyFalsely have you believe a link to a porn site. It was a ling to www. adultfilmdatabase .com revealing that the name Nikki Nite is in fact the name of a porn star] Don't get too excited. It's just an air name.

> And, what kind of format is country positive/religious ...

It is the result of a slavish adherence to market research. You get enough people to say that they love Christian music and country music, and a consultant dork will come up with the format. Common sense says "well, we have a Christian station and two Country stations. Wouldn't the listener prefer to stay in control and punch back and forth instead of listening to "I Can Only Imagine" for the thousandth time?" There is no money in common sense so the consultants prevailed. Don't they always?

It's true. Remember the old days when "he has a face for radio was a joke?" It doesn't cut it now. And I have to admit, it doesn't hurt that Nikki has "The Look". Check out the announcment on All Access. They included a picture.
Edited by chickontheradio on 10/23/05 12:10 AM.

Maybe radio needs more of the LONE COWBOY PROGRAMMERS. Most longterm successful businesses have input from everyone but one person has the final say. Do you think the most successful NFL coaches have to go running to the president and or owner to get every little thing? Last time i saw that happen was when Jerry Jones decided to Run the cowboys and we know what happened there. Finally Jerry let go and hired another Jimmy Johnson (The Tuna) His own man and it's starting to pay off. I understand politics and yopu have to negociate much more today but for cryin out loud DON'T MICRO-MANAGE! It will bite you in the ass. I have no doubt Ms. Nikki will be just fine. Market size has nothing to do with it. Either you got it or you don't and we'll all find that out over the next few books.

Good night and Good luck.

I'm old.

I forgot what I dished out.

What did you take of mine?

> > But what kind of name is Nikki Nite for cryin' out loud?

No, other than sort of phony sounding.

But it is sexy.

Did Nikki ever live in Sachse?

> You need to get out more.

Well, I'll concede you have a point there.

I AM talking to you.

However, tonight IS Bingo Night at the Elks Club.

>Check it out.

Check what out?

"It"?

>Don't get too excited. It's just an air name.

Come on ... now you're foolin' with me again, chick.

Nite is her REAL name.

I can feel it my bones.

Just like Johnny Dark ... Anthony Midnight ... Huggy Boy ... Art Laboe.

No ... no ... Art's name is real.

And, it is sexy sounding.

I think I need to stop there.

Rick Radio.

Is it Mrs., Miss, or Ms. Nite.

Is her other significant?

> > And, what kind of format is country positive/religious ...

I thought the Emancipation Proclamation brought that to an end.

Maybe not.

You know best, chick.

Go on. I'm listening ... intently.

> You get enough people to say that they love Christian music

Really. And they PAID the consultant for THAT.

Who really needs enemies now?

I've NEVER heard that song.

Well, I don't think I have. Have I?

> There is no money in common sense so the consultants
> prevailed. Don't they always?

Usually. Not always.

Sometimes they fire one ... and hire another.

Same song ... second verse ... you know.

Something about research, consultants makes me sleepy.

Were those my words or yours?

Oh yeah.

Well, a picture is worth a thousand words ... and all that there.

> It's true.

Yes, no truer words were spoken.

Except when I told her, "I love you baby."

>Remember the old days when "he has a face for
> radio" was a joke?"

What about "SHE had a face for radio"?

Remember, I pegged you as a feminist :).

Now, you've lied to me.

"Hurt" -- Timi Yuro.

Now we learn you're old too.

Goodbye.

Nite Nikki.

Hey, listen.

The Batman is LAZZZY!

Is she blonde?

That's all we need to know.

If she's not, KVIL made a HUGE mistake in hiring her. :)

Sincerely,
Bruce Wayne

I'm not Nikki. Sorry. But now that I know that the delicate flowers on the Dallas board are a little more sensitive than I realized, I edited out the link to www. adultfilmdatabase .com. It is not, as you suggest a porn link by itself, but a directory of porn films and there were no pictures on that link. Now if you kept clicking away... who knows...

I never heard it that way. Now, if I'd edited it to say "SHE had a face for radio" so as to make it gender-equal, THAT would have shown feminism.

I confess. Nikki is not. I am. But I never said I was young. I am an old chick. Way past 30.
