New Voice guy on KNBR

I was wondering this board's opinion on the new voice guy on KNBR. It's just not the same from the one they had when Agnew was in charge. Not to give him props or anything, but not only does it sound like a cost cutting move, it also sounds way over the top. Hard to listen to.

Re: New Voice guy on KNBR/overall

I find the station to be odd. Very green sounding morning
talent. Homers and cheerleaders basically, nothing worse
than the new breed of young former players who are now
starting to appear on sports stations, they talk about "we".
No wonder Rome has no competition, KNBR is full of candy
ass hosts.

Re: New Voice guy on KNBR/overall

This voice guy is a puker. The one before this one was a sort of tame low tone voice and I believe it is Cyrus (don't know his last name), who produces for several shows and hosts the Extreme scene on 1050 on the weekends.

What happened to the voiceover a year or two ago, "All hit radio, Giants Baseball on KNBR." Only that voice sounded cool.

And to add, I don't think they are homers on KNBR if you listen intently to the station. They are very critical and some even say too critical at times.

I think the market needs a sports station with
more attitude and less ex-jocks and frat boys.

Re: New Voice guy on KNBR/overall

They should move Rome over to 9 to Noon and put Gary on from Noon to 3...While I do like Brian Murhpy, Tim Liotta is a total zero. He's solid and I would hire him to do Sports updates or news. But he's no morning man. Murphy needs someone more dynamic to guide him.

Haven't heard the new voice guy. I thought the "all hit radio" guy was a puker, too. Try imitating it. Can't do it w/o puking.

Hindsight is 20/20...However, I think time has and will reveal Bob Agnew to be a weak programmer. KNBR was a mess when he left. Certainly wasn't entirely his fault, but consider this:

KNBR had Frank Dill when it went all sports. So they had him for almost the first decade. (fuzzy on the dates). So, the numbers were very solid. After that, KNBR went thru Steve McPartlin (ick), Gary Radnich (obviously talented, but not a morning man), John London and now the latest duo. Agnew either chose or had a hand in choosing all of these shows. The man can outwork and out b.s. anyone, but he has little, if any, creative clue.

I thought London and company were embellishing when they ripped him on Free FM... While they may have been overly harsh, they weren't wrong.

I've watched him at CheapChannel for a while now and I have to conclude that he was a very lucky man at KNBR. He says and does things that are completely at odds with someone who is supposed to be a programming genius.

As for KNBR, I think it will right itself a little this year...the arbitrons don't like for 2 years in a row. New management will have new ideas. Damon Bruce is a solid replacement for Kreuger. Now, if we can only get rid of Rick and Rod...

Bravo Mr. Medium !

You have hit the nail on the head. Agnew is no programer, or broadcaster for that matter. I heard the London tyraide and agree cause, I worked for him too. What Bob is is the Sales depts Best Friend, which makes for a great bottom line, which is why Salvadore liked him.Plus I think Tony knew Bob had no talent so that made BOB willing to go along with what ever sales needed. And whatever Tony wanted. KNBR has been a mediocre station for years.

BTW Agnew was the guy who picked Dill's replacements, including the current lossers...which are what Bob likes best Undertalented, and willing to work cheap. Liotta is just Dull, Murphy doesn't know any better he's a newspaper guy.

Agnew was also Tony's henchman. "If I Fire him Tony can I keep my Job?"

Bob once bragged to me that he was a Graduate of Career Academy of Broadcasting, I laughed, HE was serious. As for the new Talking Head, I haven't heard him, but they do have a Production Guy who is such a puker I laugh when I hear him on spots. He's the guy that Filters every other sentence in a spot "WOW What Creativity" Another Agnew hire.

I believe Liotta also has the title of Creative Director at the station too. Which now that I think of it, may explain the Voice and Production Guys...Lee Hammer is the temporary PD...(aren't they all) he's not exactly Spielberg either.

Let's hope Cumulus Cleans House, face it, the Giants are what the people
listen for...Not Liotta or even Radnich. When the Giants were hot and the
ratings went up, Agnew was crowing about his supurb programing !
Really Bob, are you managing the Ball Team? Credit where Credit is Due.

Clear Channel, who does not seem to have as long a Horizon as Susuquahanna
Will soon figure out that there is No THERE...THERE.

Re: New Voice guy on KNBR/overall

I think both of you make excellent points. That morning show
is just oozing with this false sincerity, I want to puke.
For months they had a promo on where a guy called em
homers, and they whined back to him some weak comment
like "I know the Giants better than you do", God, it was
terrible. Haven't heard the puking imaging guy yet, but
you guys called it in regard to Agnew's lack of creativity
& reliance on hacks and inexperienced talent.

GIVE THAT MAN HIS MONEY!

You don't have to be a genius to be a program director in sports radio. Look, just as an example, at stations like KHTK Sacramento -- half their programming comes from ESPN, FOX, Westwood One and Premiere; and they are in the top ten consistently in the market and among the top rated stations in the nation in their format.

Rome called PD's "Monkeys" years ago -- rationale: any monkey can put a satellite feed on the air and get ratings.

Re: New Voice guy on KNBR/overall

sorry if this has been beaten to death on this board and I just missed it, but, is the feeling that Cumulus will just go with one sports station?
