New voice on FluffChannel 10 Roanoke?

Since when did Media General cough up the big bucks to hire Charlie Van Dyke as the new news promotion voice for WSLS? Van Dyke is the type of voice you hear on a hardcore news station, not on a warm and fuzzy "people touching people" type of news operation that WSLS is.

Do you know if this guy does work one some of the Sunbeam stations like WHDH or WSVN? If so, I know exactly who you're talking about, and I would find it funny as hell to hear him on 10.

Not sure about WSVN or WHDH, but you could be right. I think he used to be on WXII in Winston-Salem and WSAZ in Huntington, and at last check was also the voice of WAVY-10 in Norfolk.

With so many warm and fuzzy stories and franchise pieces that WSLS does in their first block of each newscast, his voice is not the right fit for that station. But then again, the overall quality of their topical and image promos has really gone downhill in the last couple of years...weak writing, poor shooting, cheap-looking edits, no-frills graphics. One night not too long ago, they actually ran a topical promo for their weekly "Viewers Voice" segment promoting some of the comments from viewers that would be featured that night!

I think in terms of graphics and technology, WSLS was tops in Roanoke...10 years ago. I remember WSET had HORRIBLE graphics/audio for awhile. Remember that their weather alert crawl started with an annoying horn rather than a beep. Scared the you-know-what out of you...And that "13 mountain" logo reeked of the 70's.

Now, with WSET looking OK, 10 could go for a re-do

So where in Ronaoke where you can find a good news station? (You know a station that have less fluff)

Well, Fluff channel 10 is the only station streaming the VA tech shootings. Not too shabby for a fluff channel.

I was going to post almost exactly the same thing. I know that CNN and FNC have been using WSLS as their main source of information, crediting them many times over. Again, not bad for "fluff"...
