Awhile back, the Anderson Independent said that WAIM-AM 1230 owner Palmetto Broadcasting was working on a deal for a new FM frequency in Anderson. Does anyone have an update on this? Would they use the former WROQ-FM Rock 101 transmitter behind the old Rock Studios (present WAIM-AM 1230) studios on US Highway 29 north in Anderson?

Palmetto Broadcasting didn't file any application for an FM Construction Permit. I just checked the FCC Database.

There is a Construction Permit for WTCO-FM 95.9 with 6KW/328 feet with a City of License as Pendleton, SC owned by Georgie Carolina Wireless of Florida. The permit was only granted back on 5/22/2008 so I highly doubt anything has been built yet.

The signal won't even put a CIty Grade over much of Anderson.

The people who own it will try and upgrade the signal, then they're going to sell it... The engineer on record for WTCO-FM is well known for doing that. (Not saying theres ANYTHING wrong with upgrading send selling, but that's just what he's known for, and good at!)

The FM Construction Permit at 95.3 in Due West for 6KW/328 feet was awarded to The Rejoynetwork, LLC (Frank Neely). He will most likely simulcast one of his gospel stations from Williston, SC or Metro Charlotte most of the time.

This one also won't put much of a signal into Anderson:

You can take a look at all Commercial FM Licenses, Construction Permits and Pending Applications in South Carolina here:

Maybe, Palmetto`s request didn`t go through. The article had owner Rick Driver sounding very excited about it. It said that the FM would be talk and opened up the possibility for music on WAIM-AM 1230. That station is listened by alot of locals here due to the mess with the County administator and County Council. It is actually funny the stuff that gets on that morning show on WAIM. They stream at www.1230waim.com. Maybe, they haven`t applied to the the FCC yet. How long do you think they will have to wait for an answer from the FCC about a new WAIM-FM?

Uh, either they didn't apply or they didn't get a grant.. its one of those tow because NOTHING is in the database. They don't have to wait, we already have an answer...

THey will have to wait until the FCC opens another filing window.. which will be YEARS!

I've been corrected by someone.. that Pendleton, SC FM Permit I mentioned is owned by a subsidiary of one of Art Sutton's companies.

My apologies to all involved for the mistake :)

An alert friend pointed out.. they'd use a tower to broadcast from, not a transmitter... the tower holds the antenna and the transmitter merely generates the power

Get your terminology right ;=)
