WCAU introduced new graphics as of the 4 PM newscast today.

Is it me or do those look like they were trying to copy KYW?

I don't think they are trying to copy KYW. NBC updated the graphics on the Today show, as well as other NBC O&O's. WJAR in Providence has similar graphics to WCAU now...and not just the same Channel 10 logo! However, the "flashyness" may seem similar to KYW.

KYW's graphics are themselves based on the NBC O&O package found on WNBC, WTVJ, etc. This new package on WCAU seems to blend elements of this package with the previous package they used.

KYW's graphics are actually based on the CBS O&O package. WCBS uses it too. Only difference between the two is the font. CAU looks like they were going for a more WNBC feel. Their colors are lighter and the fonts are bolder. BTW, what's that shape supposed to be on the left of the lower third?

Actually no.
The graphics were done by Pybrun Films, the same people who did WNBC's 2003 graphics. Let's take a look:

Notice how the KYW and WCBS look nothing alike!

Actually its a more of an update of the Novocom package, with some stuff inspired from KYW Pyburn:

That is supposed to be a peacock.
