New weatherperson for NBC10

Brittney Shipp is coming to town from KTVK, Phoenix. NBC10 must have the largest weather staff in town with her addition.

And none of them ever get the major weather stories right. At least Ch 29 replaced their weather staff after missing last winter's forecast by a green mile. I give them props for that, and i'm not a fan of Fox.

And, trust me, the addition of Shipp is NOT going to help that. Brittney's experience has been in Yuma and Phoenix. We very rarely have any weather out here in Arizona and, when we do, the meteorologists have no clue.

How many TV weather people actually forecast the weather as opposed to present it as forecast by a service such as Accu Weather or the Weather Channel?

Sure, they can all call themselves meteorologists because they have passed a test for accreditation. But, for example, out of the five full-time and one-part time weather casters on Channel 6, only one majored in it in college: Adam Joseph. The rest are "certified," but we all know that Cecily Tynan, Karen Rogers and David Murphy all started out as reporters on Channel 6 and then got their meteorologist certifications.

Not sure who actually majored in meteorology on the other three Philly stations. Can still remember when some long timers like Carol Erickson and Sue Serio did not have "meteorologist" in front of their names until they passed the certification test.

They may have 6 on staff but Karen Thomas has been filing in doing the weather during the day this past week or maybe she's not just per diem but getting an actual tryout. It's obvious some who have been there are not going to be around much longer.

I was surpised to see Bill Henley on Sunday night but not there on the weekday shoft. He has been there for ages.. and I wonder why he was never given the chief spot, but hes so laid back, he never hypes, just gives you the facts, so probably is best in the morning.

Karen was added per diem to help out with all the absentees. Michelle Grossman is still on maternity leave and Dave Warren just went out on paternity leave (wife just had twins). Add to that vacations and you can see why they had to bring in KT.
