Be big, be a bowler! Oh, sorry, builder.

Sounds like 1230 WECK is Jones Classic Country, coming off the bird. They're calling it "Platinum Country from the 60s, 70s, 80s and more" and "Classic Country 1230-WECK." It's put together reasonably well, although I've listened a total of 12 minutes and prefer WECK's previous Music Of Your Life-type format.

Don't know how a 1kW AM on 1230 running classic country is going to make a dent in WYRK's massive numbers, if at all. It really doesn't matter since WECK and WYRK are both owned by CBS.

One of my radio friends is telling anybody who'll listen that CBS put the format on WECK because Entercom was interested in putting classic country on 107.7. I don't buy that, but with The Lake's reportedly sagging numbers, anything's possible, including the rumor out of Entercom that they're interested in putting Air America on KB and a few Entercom AM's in other markets just to keep it off WHLD, where according to months' old conjecture on this board, the format was about to land. Hasn't happened, but that doesn't mean something's not in the wind.

Maybe it's no coincidence that the WHLD call letters were put up on the Air America Website "Affiliates List" and taken down within 24 hours.

Intruiging, ain't it?

Sometimes its not where they sit, it's where they stand...
Cornering the market on Country smart.
107.7 could STILL do something country, but that again depends on where to target, and wether or not there's an area where 1230 doesn't pick up very well...
______________

Re: WECK Format

Thanks for the info on what WECK is running.

I thought of that, kind of like protecting your ranks by having two country stations. But really I don't think WECK is going to stop an FM from going country.

As for Air America....why would they care if WHLD gets it? I don't think it's bringing in great numbers anywhere. Please not on KB. I don't think Air America will last another year from what I have heard.

OPINION: I believe 1520 may go with Radio Disney if Citadel and Entercom work out the right sort of deal...
______________

Oh Boy! We have a Radio Disney station here. Ratings are no problem, it doesn't even show up!

Re: WECK Format

How many country stations do we need?????

I predict a slight increase in AM740's numbers in the next book....

Maybe if we had more locally owned stations, WECK's former audience might have place to turn.
