New weekend shows on KCSN

From All Access:

CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY NORTHRIDGE Triple A KCSN/LOS ANGELES adds several new well-known personalities to its weekend lineup: rock star TERRI NUNN (of BERLIN), former cross-town ENTRAVISION Alternative KDLD (INDIE 103.1) MD MARK (MR. SHOVEL) SOVEL, and renowned international tastemaker SAT BISLA's "PASSPORT APPROVED."

TERRI NUNN will be on-air SATURDAY nights from 6-8p. TERRI will provide the hot soundtrack to everybody's "date night" along with interviews, live performances and her take on music, relationships, and entertainment.

"CITY OF NIGHT WITH MR. SHOVEL," airs SATURDAYS from 8-mid. The show will captures the electricity and diversity of a SATURDAY NIGHT in LOS ANGELES. It brings an energy to KCSN by blending a unique mix of new music, rock’s true icons and emerging heroes of the local music scene.

"PASSPORT APPROVED WITH SAT BISLA," airs SUNDAY 5-7p. SAT is a leader in musical discovery on an international basis.

The new weekend lineup is of KCSN's initiative to develop artists on a local, national, and international platform.

Wondering if the shows will be live or pre-taped...

So nothing about Twang, eh?

This doesn't really sound like an improvement, but I'm fair, I'll give them a listen. Again, I have a lot of empathy for Sky - he has to generate buzz for a sleepy station with limited signal way at the end of the dial. I'm sure he feels he has to "liven things up around here" while at the same time make things more worldly with the addition of international music. He thinks this will make the station sound more upbeat and relevant and maybe he is right, but I'm not tuning into a AAA/Americana station to hear The ex-lead singer of Berlin talk about relationships on a Saturday night nor get a fix of "World Music".

Side thought: You ever notice how "world music" is always presented as some sort of superior music than what you listen to? And aren't you the unenlightend provincial one if you don't agree with that presentation? Not surprising then that a station run by a California University would increase this type of music at the expense of American fare. I'm sure this has the approval of, if not the direction from, the school administrators.

The question is, what shows are out to make room for them?

I don't know if I agree with the notion that "world music" is presented as superior, at least not in the case of Sat and Passport Approved.

Sat Bisla is the owner of A&R worldwide and discovering new music from the far corners of the globe is what he does, literally. The guy has broken more acts than I can name. His Muse Expos in LA, London, Asia and Australia are must attend events in the music industry. I'm happy to see that Passport Approved is being cleared in LA again (formerly heard on Indie 103.1). WTG Sat!

I look forward to hearing Terri Nunn and Mr. Shovel's shows as well. Three new locally produced shows is all good in my book.

I don't see anything about "world music". It says "international". There's a difference. Sat Bisla is known for playing music that is emerging overseas, usually British music in the "Indie" genre, much of which becomes mainstream after they become hits.

You can look at the schedule on their page. I don't think anything dropped. Maybe some shows moved and shortened?

Great to have Shovel back.
