WFTL will celebrate its 60th birthday next month -- even if it doesn't resemble the original, is on a new frequency, and transmits from a new city way up near Lake Okeechobee.

I've just renovated and moved my WFTL page, created last year with info about WFTL people and formats, past and present. And lots of pictures.

There is also a Long-Time WFTL FAN shirt, mousepad, etc.

And if that's not enough, it also includes a link to Mike's WFTL tribute site.

Enjoy it and let me know what you think.

73s!

First thanks for the plug! Now I'll have to go in and do an update to my WFTL page, that is if I remember how to do it!

Just of the record what is now called WFTL used to be WEAT 850 a strictly WPB station.

Yeah, I remember... Curt Gowdy, etc.

How can they reassign the historic W Ft.L call to a transmitter out in the sricks... South Bay, off US 27.

I know that they are 50,000 watts by day, but since 850 is a U.S. clear channel frequency they have to reduce their power at night so that they don't interfere with the blowtorches. I'm wondering if WFTL even puts out a signal worth listening to late at night particularly in Ft. Lauderdale itself but also throughout the southeastern portion of Broward County along the Turnpike and I-95. I don't think there are any actual 50,000 watt stations operating at night on 850 near here - the closest may be as far away as Denver - but I was wondering if there was any interference on 850 at night.

No interference from KOA but a lousy (but listenable) signal after dark that interferes with my enjoyment of Savage and Alan Colmes. (Ingraham I can live without, although I enjoyed Tammy Bruce subbing for her this week.)

I'm going to e-mail Savage and tell him it's a vast left-wing conspiracy to deprive him of his audience in this leftist "blue" county of Broward. Either that or an IslamoFascist plot.

We did more with 250 watts on 1400 than they will ever do. But alas it was a different time.

WELCOME TO MY 400TH POST !

This morning while driving to work aqui en el sticks de Homestead at around 5:45 AM (before dawn) I experimented with the AM dial in my car. Skies were mostly clear at the time. The temperature was 77F. The relative humidity was 100%.

560 & 610 AM (WQAM & WIOD) came in deep, loud, and clear.

940 AM (WINZ) was listenable but it faded in and out.

850 & 990 AM (WFTL & WMYM) were non-existant as they had a whole bunch of distant stations barely fading in and out.

I'll try another similar experiment later this week. I'm taking requests, so let me know which frequencies you would like a report on. ???

THANK YOU EVERYONE for listening to me through 400 amazing posts ! ;D
