Well, folks. The main WGHP Fox 8 website has confirmed what I was telling everyone last week. The new WGHP TV 8.2 will air beginning on Jan 1,2011. If you go to the Fox 8 website, click on the link under most viewed stories. It is the one that says WGHP 8 to launch new channel. And guess what??? They HAVE brought back the old Eight-ball WGHP logo from the 1970`s-80`s!!!! The new channel is branded as WGHP TV 8.2. With the old logo!!!!! (I said that this would happen!!!). They also talk in the article about adding LOCAL PROGRAMMING (i.e. that is why they are buying up old TV libraies). They also will have local news. I BET that their news set will be very similar to the old WGHP news sets of the 60`s/70`s!!! I would not be surprised if new versions of famous WGHP Programs like "Dialing For Dollars" and "Shock Theatre" return. And yes, the article says that Time Warner is carrying the channel. The Triad is lucky to have a living piece of their TV history return!

I don't see any eight ball in that story. All I see is a TV with the letters, TV and the numbers 8.2 in different colors. I am missing something here?

The "8 ball" logo is the one that you see on the story page on the black TV screen that says TV 8 (.2 in very small letters next to it). This IS the logo that WGHP-TV 8 used from the late 1970`s- late 1980`s. I remember that everyone always called the large 8 logo "eightball". It may have been because the 8 in this logo was taken from the middle of the Ei8ht logo that WGHP-TV used from the late 1960`s-late 1980`s. There are plenty of images with this logo on line. Just do a Google image search on WGHP-TV 8 logo. It is neat that they broght back the TV 8 logo. I am also pleased that they are CALLING the new station WGHP-TV 8.2. It is a nice salute to the history of Triad Television.

Slight typo correction: the Ei8ht WGHP logo was used from 1968- 1979. The TV 8 logo (the one that WGHP-TV 8.2 is now using with .2 typed in small blue letters) was used from 1979- very late 1980`s. Then, WGHP went to WGHP 8 Piedmont logo until becoming Fox 8 in 1995. the large 8`s in the earlier logos were all born from a VERY large WGHP-TV 8 logo that was used from 1967- Jan 1968. I know that it is VERY confusing-LOL. Luckly, there are alot of photos of the logos around the internet. It is interesting that WGHP-TV 8 had SEVERAL DIFFERENT logos from its sign-on in 1963 until 1967.

No, they aren't. From my actual communications with an actual employee in a position to know, you're completely wrong. (He actually came complaining to me about your posts and how inaccurate they are, not the other way around; THAT'S how wrong you are.)

They also will have local news. I BET that their news set will be very similar to the old WGHP news sets of the 60`s/70`s!!!

I bet that if they did launch news, it would be with the exact same brand new set they just built. Why would they waste a bunch of money making a separate set for one or two newscasts on what will likely be a significantly lesser-viewed subchannel?

I would not be surprised if new versions of famous WGHP Programs like "Dialing For Dollars" and "Shock Theatre" return.

Don't hold your breath. Seriously, don't, because you'll pass out.

I've tried ignoring your posts but it's getting to be a bit insane. Can you please start posting things that are true instead of claiming your own fantasies of what you want to see as fact?

Well, sir being up in Ohio I GUESS that you are out of the loop!!! Did you not READ the story on the Fox 8 website??????? It varifies all that I have said about this!!! They ARE using the old logo! They WILL be adding LOCAL programming (off of the Antenna TV feed). And YES, they ARE adding more shows! What about this do you not understand???? It is ON their WEBSITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By the way, when the poster criticized me for my OPINION, (I said That I BET they will do this) it was wrong. I was expressing what I THINK WGHP-TV 8.2 will do. And guess WHAT, hot shot? So far I have been correct. And by the way, I have had SEVERAL employees at WGHP-TV 8 telling me about the libaries. There website DOES say that they will be ADDING locally fed shows. What is so hard about that for you to understand???????? Many people here still have fond memories of TV shows like "Shock Theater" and "Dialing For Dollars". In fact, the main WGHP-TV 8 station in September of this year, added an Elvira show showing many of the movies that were SHOWN on WGHP-TV 8`s "Shock Theatre". Later on, a new "Dialing For Dollars" using a cheap package of old movies, will help bring a more local flavor to WGHP-TV 8.2. Folks will be waiting at home waiting for the host to call them. Just like in the Janis Joplin song, "Dialing For Dollars is trying to find me"-LOL. So there you have it.... Many of the old shows like "The Partridge Family", "Maude", etc. that WGHP-TV 8 ran when they were sold to local stations in reruns during the 1970`s. WGHP-TV 8 showed those shows then, and now they return! READ the article and it varifies how the new channel is a fun and nostagic family channel. They are using the SAME logo from the 1970`s and calling it TV 8!!!

No, I'm "up in Ohio". Trip is in Virginia. It's even in his screen name ("tripinva"). We are two different people, in two different states.

Speaking of being "out of the loop'.

Sorry, about that Ohio... I though that you had posted that. Trip from Virginia must be talking about another station!!! Go to www.myfox8.com and it tells everything about the old shows and old logo!!!

And I gave my opinion about your news prediction. I only called the factually wrong information "wrong." Don't put words in my mouth.

And guess WHAT, hot shot? So far I have been correct.

Uh huh. Don't worry, I won't be responding to you any further.

Whatever, my friend Trip. Sorry about all of the confusion. Have a great Christmas, though.

You too.

Because, at the time, everyone was enamored with television stations' branding and logos.
They changed so often that they often drove water cooler discussions in many institutions. Of higher learning, of course.

I am also pleased that they are CALLING the new station WGHP-TV 8.2.
This is pretty standard, and may be somewhat of an FCC requirement.
They can't call it WFMY 2, or WXII 12.2.
Maybe they could call it EightBall TV, but that would just make you tweak.

It is a nice salute to the history of Triad Television.
It is a subchannel for channel 8, not a repository for Triad television history.

Ace work, Chief of D's!

What color is the sky in your world?

They also talk in the article about adding LOCAL PROGRAMMING (i.e. that is why they are buying up old TV libraies).
Are there local tv libraries to buy?

They also will have local news.
Reran from WGHP an hour later? That's how most subchannels' news happens.

I BET that their news set will be very similar to the old WGHP news sets of the 60`s/70`s!!! I am pretty sure someone missed their "Shock Theater" sessions this morning.

I wish Quad a very Merry Christmas too! I think that he misunderstood my comments in response to WGHP-TV 8.2 adding "local programming and shows" in ADDITION to "local news". This statement in the WGHP article could be taken to include WGHP-TV 8.2 plans to break into the Antenna TV to add their own classic shows. I do know that I have info. that they ARE buying some classic TV librarys of programs from select studios. I know that a major RTV Network station in Colorado recently bought a package from CBS/Paramount that includes "Get Smart", "Gomer Pyle, USMC" and other shows. That what I have been told by WGHP-TV 8 employees is what is happening at WGHP. The new station has to be considered a positive step by many standards. More choices on the TV dial is always better. As far as WGHP-TV 8.2 being a salute to Triad Television history. In my book, it is!!!! Look, they are using THE SAME WGHP TV 8 Logo (with a small added .2 that they sed at WGHP from 1979-late 1980`s). They didn`t HAVE to do this. They could have used a NEW totally different logo. And NO, they didn`t have to call it TV8.2. They could have just used WGHP 8.2. Or, referred to it in the BRANDING as "Antenna TV 8.2" (Like WXII-TV 12 does with "THis Carolina" 12.2 in the branding. Any way, they are using this old TV8 logo. No doubt about that. As I have said earlier, ALOT of the Antenna TV schedule just HAPPENS to be alot of shows that WGHP-TV

Sorry, last post got cut off at the end. My last point is that many of the Antenna TV Shows are ones that were purchased by WGHP-TV 8 in the 1960`s- 1980`s to show in reruns. "The Partridge Family", "Gidget", "Three`s Company", "Three Stooges", etc. are just a few examples of this... Anyway, lets ENJOy the new WGHP-TV 8.2! Good luck to them!

I know I said I wouldn't be commenting anymore, but...

The "major RTV affiliate" in Colorado bought those shows in preparation to drop RTV on November 1, which they did. KCDO is no longer an RTV affiliate and airs those shows it acquired as the ONLY classic programming it has. WGHP is not preparing to drop Antenna TV in the next few months, so I don't think the comparison is apt.

(In fact, there are currently no RTV affiliates in the entire state of Colorado.)

I think that the Antenna TV feed scheduke is pretty strong. I do see where a few locally added shows might be good for WGHP-TV 8.2. Some people have told me that they rather not see any news on WGHP-TV 8.2, but rather the classic TV. I agree!
