New Wikipedia Article: WADE - Wadesboro

Folks,

I have written an article on this station. It's not really Charlotte Metro, but this is the closest board to it. As usual, if you're familiar with the station, check it out and let me know if I don't have the facts straight.

Also, I added to my article on WLCM in Lancaster. Their leaving the air made possible the frequency switch by WADE, and the move to Pineville by WGIV.

Matt, I believe your article on WADE needs some work. My memory is that WADE switched from 1210 to 1340 in the early 80s. At first they broadcast with only 500 watts, only a whisper of the former coverage on 1210. Though 1210 was only 1000 watts, it had a fairly good range, I guess because of it's uncongested clear channel. I don't think the station was ever successful after changing to 1340, probably partly because of the increasing popularity of the Charlotte FMs, and the inability of 1340 to cover Anson Co., even after they increased to 1000 watts. For some years, they were on and off the air. In the early 90s, their tiny stick just off US 52 south was replaced by a self-supporting cell phone tower, and I think they were off for a year or two then, finally returning and co-locating on the cell tower Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't understand how WLCM/1360 going off the air would effect the usage 0f 1340 in Wadesboro, since at least 40 miles separates the two towns. Concerning the expiration of WLCM, that was a real shame. Lancaster Co., with 65000 people, is virtually unserved by local radio. WAGL/1560, once a powerhouse, is a real mess. Again, the Charlotte FMs call the shots in Lancaster. Of course, both Lancaster and Anson are part of the new Charlotte radio market.

Matt, If you can get in touch with Jeff Watts he can probably fill in any holes you might have on WADE and the other stations that Ris owned. He was CE for Ris for years. I think he's still working for WRNA in Statesville. I can get you contact info at home if you need it. Thanks for the work you are doing to tell the history of these stations.

I called a couple of people I know in that area, and confirmed that some of my information was wrong.

I've corrected the information, and re-wrote the article. Boy, some of these Wikipedia folks are pickkkEEEEE.
