New WJW Fox 8 Sports Lineup

Fox 8 has announced who will be part of the sports team come next month after John Telich retires following a four-decade run.

Ken Carman from 92.3 The Fan will handle sports duties at 5 and 6 p.m.

P.J. Ziegler takes over at 10 p.m.

John Sabol, brother of morning meteorologist Scott Sabol, will become the weekend evening sports anchor.

Andre Knott remains in a contributing role.

According to Terry Pluto from Cleveland.com, John Telich is signing off on February 7.

He's retiring from nightly sportscasting, but will be back in the fall for the "Friday Night Touchdown" high school football show.

Also, Tony Rizzo quietly retired from his Sunday night "Rizzo Show" a couple of weeks ago, citing being 60 and his kids are now through college (leading me to think he did this side gig to pay tuitions, and now that that's done, he's done).

He's still going strong on the radio side, so that isn't changing any time soon

I have a good media friend who’s daughter spent 2 decades working on the morning show at WJW8. She said that friendly vibe is real...people there really like each other. (She quit to start a family, but loved her years on the set at channel 8).

Surprised about Rizzo as Fox 8 made no mention of his show ending. (Cue viewers who want Big Chuck and Lil' John back on earlier than 12:30am)

JT signed off after the 6pm newscast tonight. It will be strange to not see him on the station after more than 41 years.

Wait 6 months, and you'll see JT again on the Friday Night Touchdown high school football show.

41 years full time, and 30 of those were spent playing the good soldier, keeping his head down and grinding while backing up plus size personalities like Casey Coleman, Vince Cellini, and Tony Rizzo. It was the last 11 that he finally had the big chair all to himself.

And every year he does FNT, you can add another year to the count

Don't forget the years JT did the 6pm sports and Casey did the 11pm sports in the early to mid-1980's. Then came Tag Team Sports with JT and Rizzo anchoring sports together in the 2000's.

One thing to note was that Mark Schroeder was an evening sports anchor at one time in the mid-1990's replacing Casey and that was met with controversy.
