New WKNR Personality

WKNR just announced that they've signed former Elyria Catholic and OSU linebacker (and 2002 National Champion) Matt Wilhelm.

It's not yet known what role he'll play on the station...could be anything from OSU analyst to perhaps being 850's version of Dustin Fox on either RBS or The Hooligans.

Let's not tag him with the Dustin Fox persona. Dustin has zero business being in afternoon drive in a major market. Simply awful to listen too.

I wasn't comparing the 2 as far as broadcasting technique goes...merely saying that they're both NE Ohio boys who were on the 2002 OSU National Championship team.

That was Fox's qualifications for his radio gig (and his 4 year gig on TV 5 as a Buckeyes analyst).

So Babyfish, we aren't a major market? Unless you were joking, we are the 18th largest tv market in the country...we are a major market in the whole scheme of things

Are you new to the business? Ever heard of Arbitron? No one said anything about smaller markets being worthless. The comment was simply about Cleveland being a major, which it is not. It's hardly cause for alarm.

Cleveland's lower radio ranking is a quirk of geography.

Akron and Canton are both separate radio markets. Had they been included (as they should since Cleveland FMs are grade "a" contour into Akron, at least), Cleveland would be (like TV, which includes those markets) #18.

Technically, one should add the Akron and Canton numbers of (let's say) WMJI, WGAR, etc to the Cleveland numbers to get a true portrait of the Cleveland stations' overall audience, which is substantially bigger than the Cleveland book shows.
