Don't know if it's a good choice or not, but the numbers keep adding up - or in this case subtracting - as another radio job is eliminated.
C'mon. Is anyone really surprised? Look at Clear Channels SOP for the last few years.
The most obvious example of remote hosting a show is Brian Wilson - not the singer, nor the Fox News personality... but the radio talk show host who found his most success in New York and Baltimore back in the 80s. He's now doing his WSPD/Toledo afternoon drive show - in addition to programming the station - from his home in Bedford County, Virginia, after he got sickened by the air quality in Toledo. But even ten years ago, IIRC, he remote-hosted a show based in San Francisco from studios in Maryland... and he even briefly remote-hosted a Baltimore talk show from WSPD's studios three years ago.
It won't matter much during the Reds' regular season, when Doc's show will be preempted on a frequent basis. I guess they just had to make Eric Deters happy that he wouldn't need to be on every night starting next week (Reds playoff games notwithstanding).

As for WLW, Cincinnati is such a unique place, that a "piped in" host will turn out to be a huge mistake. Just like syndicating McConnell and Burbank turned out to be a disaster.
According to Kieswetter (or as Tracy & Eddie call him, 'Bedwetter' - seriously, that's juvenile), he will be moving to Cincinnati.

If he is indeed moving to Cincinnati, it's no different from Scott Sloan continuing to host his Toledo show from WLW for however long he did it. Kiesweiter's article does say he's a Cleveland native so at least there are Ohio roots (even if it's the "bad part" of the state). This position has always been somewhat part time six months out of the year, so I can see why WLW went that route (as I recall Cunningham was only on Mon-Thurs even if the off season at the beginning, as the Hot Wax Weekend kicked off at 9 Friday night. So, we'll see what happens but they needed to do something...like now.

Oh, there had to be much more to the story than that alone... ;D Wilson has had an open vendetta against the Toledo Blade for the entire time he was there, and after the initial story got out, he railed against the Blade. But he was lazy enough to remote host a San Francisco show from Maryland for many years, IIRC.
He ought not to program WSPD... especially since he is no longer in town to begin with. That station sounds like a joke now, and has little Toledo feeling to it.

Thompson has indeed moved to Cinci. In addition to his new WLW duties I understand he'll continue to do his WRVA PM drive gig from Cinci. Doc fills in for Glenn Beck on a regular basis. I believe the next fill in date is day after Thanksgiving.
Doc is a Cleveland area native. He and I worked together at five time Marconi winner oldies WMJI/Majic 105.7 where Doc was Imaging Director. After a few years he weasled his way (his words) to AM producer for the R&R Award winning "Lanigan & Malone Show". He held that gig for a few years before heading out to program talk in Albuquerque and a stint as an OM in Dothan AL. Other stops include Las Vegas (former rocker KFBI) and some smaller markets as an air personality. I believe Doc and Parks first worked together at WTVN/Colubus (Parks was PD) when Doc did a weekend show in studio and sometimes ISDN from Cleveland's WTAM studios.

Well, well. I thought he sounded familiar. I suspected that he had filled in for Beck in the past.
I'm still on the fence about listening to him. It's pretty much just like listening to 'someone filling in for Beck' which isn't all that interesting given that I can hear Beck himself just down the dial.
My first impression is that he is too 'national' in that he is too obsessed with being more informed than the callers and not basing the show upon the points raised by the callers....and not taking many of their calls.
