Hmmm. What would they change to though? You really can't change to a "Jack" format because you have a well established AC as a sister. Hot 107-5 owns the R&B, WNCI and WBNSFM pretty much take care of the 18-34 demo. Ted's going to talk?

Sure you can. Plenty of markets have co-owned Jacks and ACs, or Jacks and Classic Hits. And many of them do quite well with the combos. It's only CC/Columbus that seems so deathly afraid of even slight musical overlap between its stations. But I highly doubt Saga would have that format in mind for WODB anyway, since they wouldn't call it the "New WODB". Maybe they're going to move to a more Classic Hits - oriented approach, especially since the Fox went to 80's as the Brew. That leaves nowhere in town to hear, say, Carry On by CSN&Y without having it followed by Now You're Messin With a Sonofabitch (I forget the actual title). Some oldies stations that have made the conversion toward more of a Classic Hits stance are doing unbelievably well (e.g., CC's WOLL in West Palm and KOMA in OKC). But would they call even THAT the "New WODB"???

I know that CBS in Baltimore has a Hot AC and a "Jack", and it has proved to be a disaster. Granted, with good programming, you can make anything happen I suppose.

Why do you say that? CBS's WQSR in Baltimore is doing better now 25-54 as Jack than it was as Oldies, even though CBS has *2* AC's there. (Their Baltimore Hot AC was on a ratings rollercoaster even before QSR flipped to Jack.) In Las Vegas CBS's Hot AC and their Jack are both doing great. And in Nashville, South Central's AC and their Jack are #1 and #4 respectively 12+ in the latest trend. Those are just a few examples.
Now, if you're looking for a CBS Jack "disaster", the booby prize of course goes to that ill-fated conversion of legendary WCBS-FM New York from Oldies to Jack.

I wouldn't read into this at all. They also use oldies1079columbus.com and oldies1079fm.com. The obvious URL (oldies1079.com) was already taken when they went oldies back in 2001, so they registered several other web addresses. I think newwodb.com was one of them. I seem to remember them calling themselves "Oldies 107.9 The New WODB" on some of their top of the hour station IDs.

I wouldn't read into this at all. They also use oldies1079columbus.com and oldies1079fm.com. Two of the biggest sources for format lookup info, R&R and M Street Journal/Inside Radio both label WOLL Classic Hits. CC's corporate site calls it Classic AC, but they call WLZT in Columbus simply "AC", even though it plays zero new music or recurrents. I did find one source that calls WOLL Mainstream AC, namely Mediabase. But Mediabase calls WLZT Oldies.
Perhaps this labeling confusion is to be expected for a station that evolved from Oldies, still calls itself KOOL 105.5, and plays only old music...but uses the slogan "Continuous Favorites". Whatever they are, they're a solid #1 12+ in the latest West Palm trend.
