New WQXR Internet Stream

The new WQXR internet stream is 32kbps MONO.

What gives? This really sucks.

92kbps or 128 kbps stereo PLEASE!

32 k mono for classical music is unacceptable!

WNYC is using a ".com" for their streaming... Would this be considered going against their non-commercial guidelines?

There are no restrictions on the use of the .com domain by noncommercial entities. Anyone can use a .com TLD. Likewise, a .org domain can now be used for commercial purposes, although they are still generally used by nonprofits. Check with your registrar for further details.

The acquisition of wqxr.com was just part of the deal. I've found it redirects to wqxr.org now, this was likely done for continuity purposes.

Regardless of whather it is in stereo or mono, the processing of the sound is the best I have heard on any Internet stream, any format. Rivals accuradio.com in quality even.

The AAC+ feed is labeled wqxr.aac by the way. It's not connecting properly in an old Win2K that I have Winamp 5.541 installed on presently.

I posted on the WNYC Listener Service blog/forum last night about the stereo vs. mono issue, have not heard anything yet. They put up a different post today, and it is likely they didn't get around to reading mine yet on the earlier one.

The Flash player sounds like it COULD be in stereo now. Can anyone confirm for sure? They've got an older Bernstein/NYPhil recording from late in his career there on and it should be in stereo if things are the way they are normally done according to best practices in the streaming radio industry.
