New WRRQ Signal

No longer near the market, but curious how the new WRRQ Port Dickinson signal is performing... Scott Fybush's NERW reported this week the new signal was on the air.

Also, what happens to the two translators? Do you think they will stay on with the main signal, or maybe become HD2 feeders (if Q107 has an HD2 channel)? Also saw the 107.1 Johnson City translator has a CP to boost up to 250 watts. Maybe sale potential?

I carried it west beyond Waverly while driving home from visiting my cousins in Binghamton yesterday. Much improved over what it used to be!

As long as Hawras own this frequency, its going nowhere.Look at Cool 100.After all these years,it's just a bit player in market 170.
Didnt this guy used to be a big shot in Philly? Wha happened?

I think this thread is about the signal not about the programming. That could be on a different thread. The signal is good. Case Closed.

Last I checked Cool 100 was somewhere near a 4 share and 8th in the market 12+. Not bad for a station that could barely get a 2 share for the longest time.

"'somewhere near a 4 share" is like "almost pregnant".
Last time I checked they were 8th in the money demo. Call me crazy but people dont buy 8 deep in Bingo town.
This will be another meaningless signal that prevents good Dxing.

I have not listened to the new signal very far out of town yet, but it's clean and strong most everywhere locally... I will report my findings when I travel.

Welcome to "my" tower, guys!... Okay, I can least say that it's .0001% mine, since I put in 20 years of blood and sweat as an employee of Stainless Broadcasting!

Haven't been able to see a recent book but Cool 100 (little stick with signal problems) has beaten STAR (big stick), and I hate to admit it, they even beat the Whale (big stick) once. Last book I saw they had a 4.6. Oldies is an aging demo but it's a loyal demo too. Cool has done pretty well considering their signal issues. WRRQ however is a different story. Their format is competing with a Hot AC and 2 mainstream ACs. If you throw Big 107.5's Classic Hits in there, you've got another competitor. Plus the older demo is not going to discover a new frequency as easy as a younger demo.

Keep in mind that one of those ACs is on "Christmas Break"... That makes it a good time to whip out the (bigger) stick.

I'm still sticking to my point, with a bigger coverage area, that someone should go the Rhythmic CHR route as well as make a dent to the only "CHR" in town. Wild is still late with new music, still have the "adult CHR" sound, and their so called "mixshows" aren't made by DJ's. I know, I'm gonna hear that they have their dominant numbers, but we all know why. If you are the only source for CHR, of course everyone will tune in whether you love it or hate it. As far as the Q format goes, if the numbers get better, then I'll leave it at that.

and wild has REALLY heavily distorted audio processing... I personally find it unlistenable...

I say this not as an employee of a competitor, but as a potential listener. I have told some of the powers-that-be of my opinion.

I listen to other stations all the time, but I can't stomach the sound quality of this one.

By the way, Tom Shiptenko just walked in my office as I was editing this post...

Cool will never have any better than a 4 share 12+ as long as they play anything and everything from the 50's thru the 80's. The ONLY reason they beat The Whale, was because some of the employees were filling out diaries, and they got nailed doing so. Q 107 is a waste of air space. They could have 100,000 watts, and they would still have nothing. Equinox Broadcasting will NEVER amount to anything, as long as George and Shiptenko are running things. Mr. radio genius who invented classic rock, taking cash accounts and turning them into trade for his own benefit. No talent, no signal, no revenue, broad playlists = NOTHING!!!!! Now I'm hearing through the grapevine George is trying to put more stations on in Bingoland? Come on already!! That guy blows more smoke than a chimney. By the way Steve, where are there 2 mainstream ACs? Mix is the only one I know of.

I've been out of town for a year, but last time I heard WLTB they were mainstream. I realize they drift between mainstream and Hot AC.

Waverly is a pretty good reach for 106.7, and sounds like in market is improved as well.

So that goes back to my translator question - especially if in-market listening is better, could we be seeing an HD-2 format pop up on 107.1 or 104.5, similar to what Saga does in Ithaca? Could the translators be for sale? The station website only mentions 106.7 on the top, whereas Cool 100 also mentions their 95.1 and 102.9 signals (omitting 101.1 though...).

It was nice hearing it when I was home from school for Thanksgiving... The signal was strong throughout the Triple Cities, but they did give up some signal strength down I-81, where the old signal boomed down 81 and into Clarks Summit, I couldn't get it much before Harford on my drive up.

Those loses however, are probably fine, considering those listening in the valley or who may have wanted to, but couldn't get it, now should have no issues...

Well, As expected some pretty rude comments but hey it's christmas right? Having said that. I do admire dj21's tenacity. I wish for Christmas.. someone ...Anyone ... does a Rhythemic CHR for him..lol.

Since this thread is about signal and not owners or programming. I will say.. That tower is amazing. I've had a chance to see it up close and it is an awsome tower. I also think that Kev has done a great job engineering it.

The signal is one of the best class a's in the market now. I think that's pretty good for a signal that was non existant 2 years ago. Thanks for Clearchannel in Syracuse.

As for the rude comments.. Congrats on your success...
