New WWE show coming to Ion Television

"Fresh, new programming"? WWE? Are you kidding?

That faux-sports-infomercial has been around since TV began and is perhaps the most worn out trash on TV today.

<in his best announcer voice> "Presenting the best of fictitious sports with a soap opera theme we now present the world champion Lex the Loser versus The Abominable Hunchback in a fight to the finish <lowers voice> which will be completed this Saturday evening at <insert name of local sports palace here> in a <raises voice once again> FIGHT TO THE FINISH <cut to bloody homeboy holding a huge belt with a K-Mart buckle as big as a cow's butt>. GIT YER TICKETS NOW!!!!!!

And here I thought "reality TV" was trash! ???

In the spirit of used car dealers who now hawk their retreads as "new to you", is it fair to say that this is "new to Ion"? :)

You know what I was talking about--it's not a reran TV show, nor a TV-edited movie.

Depending on the timeslot, I could definitely see Ion Television using Main Event as a lead-in for those movies or shows, though.

This seems like WWE Superstars only on free TV.

Clearly the WWE is missing the ability to get some exposure outside of non-cable tv since they move Smackdown to SYFY 2 years ago.

I wonder how will this affect any potential launch of the WWE Network now that it looks like NBC-Universal's monopoly on WWE is over.

I would've expected Comcast to get them started, but it looks like it's going down the tube just like the XFL and WBF (Both McMahon Creations ;D).

Comparisons to Superstars on WGN could be correct. When WWE launched it, they had a rare Undertaker TV match, versus Matt Hardy. I thought they were serious with Superstars, but the quality went downhill over the months.

This Ion deal all depends on how much care and feeding WWE gives to it. If they lose faith, it will turn into Superstars light.

This isn't the first time the former PAX Network has forayed into sports programming, scripted or otherwise. Remember when they used to show an NFL Films-produced show on Saturday evenings?

In the 90's they aired 11:Alive (a production of then WWF).

Just last year ION ran a couple live UFC prelimiary cards. So this is kinda similar. Both shows take place in a ring.

Who cares....its Ion/I(nfomercial)/PAX

Sure, ION's schedule is loaded with infomercials. But, last I read, its primetime lineup of reruns sometimes outranks The CW's original programs (not to be confused with the MyNetworkTV post from a few weeks back).

Both ION and CW are wastes of electricity.

Years ago when the network was 'i' ('Independent Television'), the predecessor to CBS Sports Network bought time on Saturday nights to air live college football games.

I remember PAX broadcasting part of the 2000 Olympic trials right after they signed their strategic deal with NBC.

BUZZ. WRONG. Regular programming makes up the vast majority of IONs Broadcast Day. They are now programming 1PM-3AM 7 days a week. 98 hours of the week. Infomercials (including the channel the network that sells the knives) and religious programming only make up 70 hours of programming a week.

Not counting sports programming on Saturdays/Sundays (but counting the overnight network news and the Cookie Jar Cartoons Saturday Morning) CBS programs 80 hours of the week.

Not counting sports programming on Saturdays/Sunday (but counting the overnight airings of Kathy Lee & Hoda and Mad Money along with the Qubo Block Saturday Mornings and the overnight best of Dateline Sunday Night at 1:30AM) NBC programs 75 hours of the week

And again not counting sports programming on Saturday and Sundays (but counting the overnight network news and the E/I block on Saturdays) ABC programs 74 hours per week.

The reason Sports programming is not included in my count is because it varies week to week.

So my findings tell me that ION programs more hours a week than all 3 of the BIG 3.

ION = 98.
ABC = 74.
CBS = 80.
NBC = 74.

Even if you count Sports on Saturday and Sunday afternoons (or anything else because I know ABC airs other stuff besides sports Sunday afternoon) ION is still in the lead.

Three airings of early 2000's network TV drama series that was also seen previously on "cable" in reruns does not a Broadcast Network make. Ion is essentially a part-time cable network in broadcast drag with 10 hours of Infomercial programming on weekdays. Even real cable networks save the infomercial junk for 3-6am CT.
