New WXIA/WATL graphics and music

It hasn't taken long for the new WXIA/WATL news director to make changes. There was a new graphics and music package this evening.

The graphics have a heavy emphasis on curves. The music reminds me of WGCL, but it has riffs of "11 Alive" in it, which leads me to believe it could be a newly commissioned "Alive" version 3 from 615 Music (WXIA commissioned version 1 of "Alive" in 1999 and version 2 in 2002), although it could be from someone else.

Of course, they could be WSB-TV and be on their 10th year of the "News2000" music package.

Hey, Stitch, are you sure it's from Chyron? For the past couple of years at least, WXIA's been using Pinnacle Systems/Avid Deko as they're graphic generator.

WFMY Greensboro, NC (also a Gannett station) has
adopted those graphics within the last month and
has also changed the music (I don't know where
they get their music).

Corporate look

There are two graphic versions of this package. WXIA is using the red theme and 13WMAZ Macon is using the blue version. The NBC affiliates have the chimes in their music packages.

WXIA owner Gannett signed a new deal with Chyron in July for its 'Axis Graphics Platform'.

The graphics will be hubbed out of KUSA in Denver.

A clarification on my part, "Pyburn Films" is actually the source for the new animations and opens, as indicated in the WKYC link.

WFMY is using the red. And no chimes; WFMY is
a CBS affiliate.

The graphics looks a lot better, have a more "HD" look to me. As for the music, I think they should have went back to one of the Alive themes or a close variation. JMHO.

This is sort of a tangent...but since they've introduced the new graphics package, I've noticed another change, and it really baffles me. I've seen this at least twice, so I'm sure it's deliberate, but could someone explain why the weather guy gets up from the desk and walks across the studio, only to sit down at a computer right in front of the camera when they go to a break?

???

I think that the producers are having Paul Ossmann going in front of the camera to emphasize he is walking over to the "new" separate weather set, which they have been having Ted Hall and Brenda Wood taking turns standing next to when the commercial break is over and the weather segment begins. Paul wouldn't be walking in front of the camera on purpose unless he was told to do so. If the director or producer didn't want him to purposely walk as they break for a commercial, he wouldn't be getting up until the camera shot had finished and the commercials had started. It's completely deliberate.

What's with the excessive camera motion from the one side of the desk to the other in the mornings when the talent is chatting? Once or twice would be okay, but it's constantly used and, therefore, over used.
