New Y100 Logo...

So I just logged on to Y100.com and there's a new logo in the top left corner...I have to say, looks pretty cheap. Why couldn't they leave well enough alone?

And who is currently on in the middays?

I agree. I think it looks like a logo of a cheap nightclub/bar. Worse yet one that has a shelf life of 2 weeks after their grand openings.

WOW...what a depressing looking logo?

A martini-glass? C"mon guys!

The Y-100 "globe" was an icon in the country. It was adopted from the ONE WORLD ONE STATION Y100 slogan from the mid-90s...then morphed into the "blue ball" that CC gave all it's CHR stations...originally the KIIS-LA logo adopted for the South Florida market.

The "new" logo was passable, altho a big cartoony looking...it still "said" South Florida!

But this thing is ridiculous!

Hello...MARKETING 101...where's your slogan? Where's the "stationality" in THAT logo you've got now?

Wow, I am EMBARRASSED now to say I EVER was a part of the Y100 history...buh bye Y100!

SAD!!! SHAMEFUL!!!! CHEAP LOOKING!!!! AWFUL!!!! Bring back the original logo!!!! Nuff said....Note to designer, I would not put on my resume that I designed this logo.

I thought Q94/Richmond, VA's logo looked bad after CC "refurbished" it: http://www.wrvq94.com/main.html|

Then I see Y-100's...and I spit beer on my screen. These things have to be done on Microsoft Paint...and even I could do a better logo if you give me an hour!

Truth be told, does CC even give a damn anymore?

I dont like to bash people on this board, because it can burn bridges...but I'm not even sure if that designer should stay in the business.

It's fascinating to watch a bunch of dudes sit around and try to determine what's appealing to women.

Simple?  Yes.  But, I suppose that you'd be ragging on how simple, boring and "MSPaint" a logo from Target, Tiffany & Co, or Nike would be, too.  ::)

Oh, and have I mentioned how funny it is that a station is not trying to be cookie-cutter, and yet they get bashed at the sign of any change. Way to be two-faced, people.

I'm not suggesting that this is the end-all of radio station logos, but I give them credit for trying to appeal to their audience.  Which, btw, is NOT us.

And...for all things good in this world...PLEASE give up the "I wish things were the way they were" argument.  The audience has changed how and why they use our medium.  Stop telling them what you want them to know.  Tell them what THEY want to know.  There are some GREAT memories tied up in the past, but that's all they are.

If you think anyone other than radio people ever cared about the globe or rat fish dolphin, show it to someone on the streets of the market and see if they have a clue what it is.  You'll be startled at the results.

Try 18-34 All demos

I think these companies have used the same logos forever, Has the #1 soft drink company changed their logo no, Major broadcasting networks.. no, and the list goes on and on...many that have changed have gone back to their original logo beacuse it tarnished company awareness. Two good examples of radio going back to their original logo is K- ROCK and WCBS in New York.

I don't think a logo change has anything to do with programming last time I checked.

Opinions are good, stations are there to serve the public interest, I am the public. I know that changes will not be made. I don't expect that...but if radio does not take a chance, and change, you're right.. we will be the last ones to enjoy the memories. How many kids really pick broadcast radio as their primary choice for music, I bet the number is lower then you think. Why do you think big companies have fought the "PEOPLE METER" because it is going to shift the statistics on who is listening...And who is that... us old dudes and gals, (I'm 40 by the way). Because to be frank the 18-34 demos just don't give a damn about FM radio.

Why do you see "Jack" "Movin" "News on FM" "classic hits" and other variations of older demo formats hitting the scene, because now we are the realistic demo that is listening to radio. Where you would see 3 CHR (pop/rhythmic/etc) in a market now you only see one in most markets now.

So you see the rat, squid, dolphin, carp, dolphin might be the salvation of the over the air radio dial, because us old dudes might be the only ones listening or that really care.

The rant is over and finis :)

"Try 18-34 All demos"

Wrong.....RogerThat is DEAD ON! Message board people in every market are radio geeks. Myself included. We are all usually 30-65 yr old men. Most of you have no idea about what radio for women really means. Most radio for women is radio by men for what they think women want. Most women in Y100's demo that have seen the logo like it. Do you really think they didn't test the thing? C'mon. And ROgerThat nailed it. What the hell is the Nike logo? 18-34 yr old women don't care about call letters or logos. They care about a beat, a feeling, dating, their career, their men and their hips.

Really? Coke has alternative logos over the years...Pepsi changes their logo every few years. McDonals has changed their logo, Kentucky Fried Chicken changed their name for 10 years to KFC, Starbucks changed their original logo, so did General Motors. America changed our flag from stars in a circle. The Miami Dolphins have changed their logo and colors! ETC!

It's a girly logo. Ok. Anybody here girly?

And WCBS went back to their logo only as a way to fool people into remembering the old station which is NOT what they actually are. K-Rock wants people to remember the station that should not have gone away and HEY guys, it's back. Y100 is not trying to get back the audience that remembers the globe. They want the demo that is listening and the demo that should be. They have revamped their station back to a more true CHR and want to show it's different now. I think the logo accomplishes that. I bet you a number of their P1's must like it

Hey...Im not a big Top 40 fan...I'va always been a fan of the hard rock.

And I dont see a problem with Y-100 changing their logo, but to that? As Simon Cowell would say "It's rubbish!"

Look, I dont see a problem changing a logo...hell, it's a good way to freshen up a rather boring image. Furthermore, I understand most of us are dudes; we burp, watch football, and drink beer. Women complain, watch Idol, and drink Smirnoffs! We are fundamentally different! But any way you slice it, I still think the logo BLOWS. It doesn't have to have a globe or a dolphin doing a backflip or whatever, but this new logo seems rather tacky and ugly...like they just said "OK, make our logo more appealing to our core audience and have it on my desk in an hour."

(And if my point is proven further, I showed it to my 25 year old gal-pal and she said it was butt-ugly...SO THERE!) ;D

This new logo is total crap. Why can't they just modernize the original logo? It would look infinitely better. Of course, the people who commissioned and designed this logo probably don't even know what "infinitely" means.

I wonder if a focus group was put together when the station logo was first designed..doubt it.....Radio pulls further away from the listener, revenues are down, but that's okay a few more "focus" group studies will fix that. :)
