Try listening to a Reds game on WLW AM during a thunderstorm. Even within 10 miles of "The Big One". With all of the major electrical/wifi/etc. interference to AM radio, especially in homes these days, it's not a tough choice to listen via FM vs AM. Additionally, due to streaming, younger people are conditioned to digital sounding apps and FM quality. They don't have the patience for "noise" and "interference" when tuning in to a radio.
Back in the 60's - 90's I wouldn't make such a claim. However, technology is both a blessing, and in this case, a curse. Just sayin'.
