New Year's Eve TV coverage, national + local, 2023-24

Here's a roundup by network of the NYE celebrations on TV as we get closer to 2024. It falls on a Sunday night into Monday morning this year.

ABC - Starts with The Year: Countdown to 2024 at 7/6c, then as usual, Ryan Seacrest and Rockin' Eve from 8-10, a break for local news, and back from 10:30 until past 2AM ET/PT.
*There will not be a New Orleans countdown this year.* But there is a countdown from Puerto Rico, and of course, the Times Square festivities and musical performances. Post Malone, Green Day, and Ludacris are some of the bands/musicians performing.
As mentioned on the National Radio board, this broadcast will be simulcast on the radio nationally for the first time ever. 150+ iHeart stations, mostly CHR/Top 40 formats, with WHTZ New York as the flagship. iHeartMedia Stations To Simulcast New Year’s Rockin’ Eve - RadioInsight

NBC - Sunday Night Football, but no Miley & Dolly this year. NBC will not be airing a New Year's Eve celebration at all, except for some local celebrations in a few cities. Miley's show was #2 last year, barely beating out Nashville's Big Bash on CBS.

CBS - Nashville's Big Bash returns for a third year. Kane Brown, Trace Adkins, Blake Shelton and more are scheduled to appear. Elle King and Rachel Smith host. Starts at 7:30 ET/PT, breaks at 10PM for local programming, and is back from 10:30 PM - 1:05 AM. Unlike Rockin' Eve, there is a live CT countdown (duh).

FOX - No national celebration again this year.

CNN - Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper at Times Square, with a CT countdown from Austin TX. And that amusing 'red shoe' celebration from Key West is back!

Fox News - A couple of specials, but no Times Square drop live. One is hosted by Tyrus, who often appears on Gutfeld's panel.

Univision airs Feliz 2024 as well, with Raul De Molina (El Gordo y la Flaca) back to hosting.

Local celebrations this year include:
Celebrate Chicago (WLS-TV. This starts at 11:25 CT on Navy Pier and follows the NYC ball drop.)
Celebrate San Antonio (WOAI-TV, local fireworks show on the River Walk)
Lone Star NYE (originating at KXAS, the Reunion Tower show, this will be syndicated to many other stations in TX, OK, LA and KS, as always)
Some Fox stations (like WOFL) will air a LiveNOW simulcast of New Year's Eve celebrations from around the country.
The Idaho Potato Drop (KTVB, the only Mountain time celebration aired on television.)
Las Vegas celebrations will air on KSNV (and simulcast on KVCW), and KTNV. KLAS will air Nashville on tape-delay instead. The Las Vegas celebration is syndicated to KTLA Los Angeles and KOIN Portland, perhaps other stations.
New Year's at the Needle (KING) This year, for the first time since Northwest Cable News went defunct, it will be syndicated to other NW Tegna stations! KREM and KGW will both air this live for the Spokane and Portland markets.

No New Year's Live from SF this year (this would normally air on KRON), nor anything local from Boston (WBZ...or was it WBTS? aired fireworks at midnight for several years, they are just taking the CBS feed this year).
If I'm missing other local celebrations, let me know.

I'm sure WLS is live - they go back to Rockin' Eve at 10:30. At 11:25, Celebrate Chicago airs.

what time are they airing (ghost of)Dick Clark in the Central time zone? live from Times Square or delayed an hour?

On WOI 5 ABC Des Moines it shows its Live From Times Square so we will see the ball drop at 11pm. They have the 10pm News at 9pm on that night.

Also KCCI 8 CBS will air their 10pm News at 9pm Also that night.

It looks like a lot of CT ABC stations will go with a 10:59 live ball drop. Back in the day, some used to air random syndicated or paid programs in between the news and delayed Dick Clark.
Telemundo also has a New Year's Eve live broadcast from several places - NYC, Austin TX, Puerto Rico I think...CNN, as I said, will also be in Austin TX for their CT countdown.

Because the CBS show is based in the central time zone, they do two ball drops. One from NY at midnight ET, and the second from Nashville at midnight CT.

KMBC always went with their precious sitcom reruns that always delayed Ted Koppel

If it’s based in the Central Time Zone why don’t they stay on another 30 minutes? They are going to be off the air pretty much as soon as the ball drops. How about staying on til 1:30am ET?

CBS did that the last 2 years they've done Nashville NYE. Also the start time for Nashville NYE coverage on CBS is subject to pushback as they have an NFL doubleheader. It'll be interesting to see how they handle the coverage, especially for Western viewers as it'll be time-shifted for primetime, especially if it runs past 7:30 Eastern & perhaps still signing off for part 1 at 10/9c.

On a somewhat related note, WBTV isn’t even bothering with news at 10pm Eastern that night. They are airing “Living Large” instead.

KIMA isn't doing news, it's a repeat of the Canadian series 'Just For Laughs Gags' instead at 10PM. Nor is KAPP (with Rockin' Eve) but they never do weekend news anyway.

Here in Phoenix, KPHO will air the Nashville NYE in ET pattern airing from 7:30-10 & then 10:30-1AM while KNXV will air Rockin Eve early in normal MT pattern, but air an extended 90 min newscast to sync the midnight taping with AZ midnight.

Interesting seeing KNXV tonight after their 90-minute newscast from 9-10:30. They went on with about a minute of dead air before airing the 11:30 portion of Rockin Eve for 2 segments (about 15 minutes) before fixing it & showing the late night portion in sync with AZ time at around 10:50 so as to see the ball drop at Times Square at Midnight Arizona time.

Space Needle *fireworks* sucked - again. That's two years in a row of return to in-person and two years of smoke that blocked a majority of the fireworks! The drone show was excellent with space and Earth references.

But we enjoyed the Lone Star NYE from the Reunion Tower even more...watch it on YouTube whenever KXAS posts it. It was a trip through the decades from 1900 to 2024. Amazing drone show, even a COKE bottle being poured complete with the 'I'd Like to Buy the World a Coke' song! Plus a good fireworks show.

Good performances from Lynyrd Skynyrd tonight on CBS' Nashville show.

I enjoyed watching "Lone Star NYE" via the KXAS-TV national stream on The Roku Channel.

I noticed that KTRK-TV Houston simulcasted "Celebrate Chicago" from WLS-TV.
