NEW YORK ARBITRON RATINGS: FEBRUARY 2011

92.3 seems to be boosting over a 3 now, just a little ahead over sister station Fresh. Thunder increasing on their cume, not bad for a reach despite that 106.3 brooklyn pirate.

I can't believe it... WRXP is actually seeing a better rating with each book... It's only a +0.01 differential, but still... ::)

And how does "WNYZ-LP" still make the PPM's as a "rhythmic" station owned by JVC? Nick, have you been toying with your PPM meter? ;)

I find it interesting that WPLJ is now #1 in Middlesex-Somerset-Union with a 6.6 rating, yet only has a 2.7 in New York, and a 1.8 in Nassau.
It is always said that the station appeals to Soccer Moms (what a silly term!). But don't New York and Long Island have plenty of these women too? Is the station most heavily promoted in northern NJ?

I guess that CBS-FM is still doing really well, it's #2 and it's in the 5 share. I read about it in the Dentist's board about CBS-FM and the demographic issues that happened on Allan's board which is NYRMB. Some people saying about playing 60's music next to 80's music and something like that. Look what happened in the Hudson Valley right now. WGNY-FM got a fresh start at 98.9 back in mid to late February playing nothing but 50's 60's and 70's music, but there is no 80's music on that station. The name of the station is what they called "Fox Oldies". That's right! Oldies without 80's. If you want to hear some 80's music, you have a choice to hear WHUD, WRNQ's "Lite-FM", WCZX's "New Mix 97.7" and so on.WCZX has already dumped 70's music completely to go towards a more Hot AC approach after Bob Miller & Suzy Garcia gone right before the change took place and Mark Bolger is the new morning host for the station. WCZX's "New Mix 97.7" is the new WPLJ, and as you know, WPLJ is now own by Cumulus (formerly Citadel), the same company that owns many of the Hudson Valley stations like WKXP/WZAD's "The Wolf", WCZX's "New Mix 97.7", WPDH/WPDA, WRRV/WRRB, WFAS and WKNY along with some Connecticut stations like WDBY's "Kicks 105.5" in Danbury, Westport's WEBE's "Webe 108" and so on.

As for WGNY-FM on 98.9, it is a new oldies station than CBS-FM was since it first kicked off in 1972 until 2005 before "Jack" came along. Van Ritshie did a excellent morning show, along with "Buffalo Bob" in afternoon drive, and a new afternoon jock is coming to "Fox Oldies" later this month is none other than Suzy Garcia formerly of WCZX to do middays on WGNY-FM. I hope "Fox Oldies" will do a lot better than CBS-FM did. As I said, CBS-FM is doing very well playing a few 80's songs mixing with a number of 60's songs and a sprinkle of 50's songs that WGNY-FM is playing right now.

According to the statement that Allan mentions about not playing 60's music on the radio anymore that 80's music sounds terrible next to 80's music. You can find 60's music on "Fox Oldies" at 98.9 which is in the Hudson Valley listening area. It's a brand new radio station. It has been on the air since February 26th, that was about 3 or 4 weeks after it first hit the airwaves.

It covers the entire listening area including Poughkeepsie, Kingston, Saugerties, Woodstock, Hyde Park, New Paltz and a few others. The station is in Rosendale, but it has a excellent signal right from the start.

Way to go CBS-FM for doing well. I hope the ratings will continue to do so if the next PPM's comes out next month. WLTW's "Lite-FM" is still on top of the ratings as well.

According to the radio column in today's NY Daily News, WRXP has moved up to #8 in the 18-34 demos. I believe it had recently been #10. Matt Pinfield and Leslie Fram seem to be talking much less on their midday show than when they were on during mornings.

Yes, a job very well done! Nothing wrong with still playing 60's and 80's together and 70's mixed in...it's all oldies and they belong together. Even some 50's works well on CBS-FM.

103.1 FM (Cruisin' Oldies) out of Denver plays late 50's and mainly 60's currently. Sounds Great!!

NOW is indeed picking up steam. It has passed Power 105 and about to pass Hot97. I still think it will NEVER Catch Z, It should be making alot more $$$ than K-Rock

I can't believe melting-pot 87.7 has over 100,000 cume. I never even noticed that it kept appearing in the PPMs after Party went away last year. Are there that many Russians and Koreans that listen to the radio?

I guess that means 'RXP will be with us for some time to come. 'RXP isn't in the top 10 in any other demo. :)

If CBS-FM is doing so well in the ratings, why are they having so much trouble selling advertising? ???

They were waaaay up in 2010 compared with 2009, and are close to having the same billings rank as they do in 25-54 in the PPM.

I don't think the pirates on 106.3 affect the area of the market where Thunder's cume is coming from.

As far as 92.3 they are increasing infact. Seems like their playlist is a bit less tight.

There is a BIG difference between Moms and all people from that area and the more progressive, city type people in N NJ and LI. Those people WANT, NEED to be on the cutting edge of everything. They don't wear applique vests and mom jeans. It's not "Soccer Mom's " that listen to PLJ, it's small town women who prefer the 80's and 90's to now. That is why.

Considering the fact that three quarters of a million people in the City and the Boroughs cume WPLJ, your theory is obviously wrong.

In general, listeners over 35 tend to prefer vastly less "now" music and lots more 90's, 80's, 70's and even 60's.
