That makes at least 60 pirate stations. There are more pirate stations than licensed stations!

What I would like to see happen is that the FCC raids all the pirates on one day. The licensed stations reduce their power and cut the HD on the day the FCC is driving around to find the pirates, then they all get shut down and fined $10,000. Instant $600,000 in revenue for the FCC.

Nick -

With gas exceeding $3 a gallon my question is this: Did you physically DRIVE to NYC-proper to compile this list? If so WOW... can I have a sliver of your "free time?"

::)

So pretty much every frequency that doesn't have a licensed station has a pirate.
I live about 7 miles west of Newark and these are the pirates I hear most frequently:

96.7
97.5
99.9
102.3
103.9
106.5

I drove through NYC recently and got stuck in traffic, so I decided to tune around and find out how many pirate stations were on the air. Most of the pirates are on the air on Saturday nights. I didn't just drive specifically to listen to pirate stations. If I had more free time I would have remembered the formats of each station. I was just amazed to hit the seek button and have the radio stop on every single frequency between 93.5 and 95.5 because there were so many pirates.

I can't believe I'm doing more than the FCC is doing against pirate radio.

Right now there is one on 102.3 that seems to blanket all of Bergen and Southern Rockland County....Trying to pinpoint where its exactly coming from.

How you going to get 10k each from a bunch of hatains???

Well if they don't have 10k then seize all of their assets and sell it to raise the 10k fine.
