I had said this somewhere but if satellite takes off, you will be hearing a lot more Latin and Urban stations on the terrestrial side along with news and sports. Though if HD works out, then terrestrial radio "might" be saved.

I think unless regular am and fm radio gets its act together and does it soon that in five to ten years most programming will originate from somewhere else. It will be voice-tracked wich the exception of all news.

I hope I am wrong.

Not bad.It doesn't sound too far from the truth with the exception of Sal & Richard on 103.5FM WKTU.

Predict,> > discuss, and have fun.> > > 92.3 Country > 102.7-alternative> 107.1 West chester,ny-aaa> My predictions:WOR: will stay a talk station but will become mainstream (lets call it more moderate) as it's current hosts begin to retire........................WCBS880:will indeed become news/talk, leaving WINS as the only all-news station in NYC....WLIB will morph back into more Carribean programming: the audience is there and it's signal remains mostly listenable in NYC....WWRL: will continue to grow as a black-talk station...WQEW: will be sold off in the Disney sale, and will return to a music format, most likely standards....1050 will also be sold off and will become (once again) a liberal talker, and perhaps AA's new affiliate in NYC.....930, 1480: will find other ethnic programming that will most likely air 24/7....WQCD will continue to become softer, competing with WLTW....WAWZ will be sold to a commercial broadcasting company and most likely retain it's programming as it is now.....CBS-FM will fall into the same catagory as NEW-FM...trying and failing at various formats, but one of them will most likely pick up a dance format and become successful again. I see no real changes for the spanish stations on FM except for WCAA which should try to cater more toward Newark/Jersey City, then to compete with 93.1 and 97.9. I see no changes to 107.5 and 98.7 as "soul" stations either, and the rap stations, 97.1 and 105.1 will continue to compete. WXRK will continue to move in an AAA direction in search of the younger listener, and I see no other classic rock station other than WAXQ being on in NYC in the next 5 years either.
______________

WCBS FM will likely become a failure like WNEW FM and perhaps one other station will try to compete with Lite FM.

I am surprised there is no soft ac/oldies station here. Not a "Sunny" station playing "favorites from the 60s, 70s, and 80s". Will any of those come around? Maybe CBS FM or K Rock will go towards that direction. WNEW will probably continue to compete against KTU.

I would agree with you on all this. I'm not sure if K Rock would switch, but 5-10 years is a fairly long time span and a lot can happen. Like you said, maybe there will be a "Sunny 101.1" IF 'Jack' fails. Thats IF.
______________

Why would they?

No way I see that happening. They make a ton of money with the soccer moms right now.

Reasonable guesses.

> 101.1 > Modern Rock (Crock 101.1)

Doubtful...K-Rock right before changing formats had a modern rock sound, as well as the old WLIR...as much as I loved both stations they never scored enough ratings in the NYC book to survive...why would that change now.

Ironically, Jack FM seems to be playing a lot of the stuff that a modern rock station would play though, including some new wave cuts from the 80's.

> 101.9 > Returns to Smooth Jazz format

Can't see that happening...I don't think their ratings have been hurt by going with the "chill" format and it probably gets better, younger demos.

> 102.7 > AC (Competing with Lite FM)

Quite possible.

> 103.5 > (Still) Chr/Rhythmic Dance
> 104.3 > (Still) Classic Rock
> 105.1 > Urban AC (To compete with Kiss FM)

Why would they compete with Kiss FM and not Hot 97? Hot 97 tends to do better than Kiss FM.

> 106.7 > (Still) AC -> AND STILL #1

I'd bet on that.

> 107.5 > Country (A long shot but it might happen)

I wouldn't be surprised if they change formats, but I don't see country coming to an FM outlet in NYC. And if WBLS fails at competing with Kiss FM, why would 105.1 take a risk and give it a shot, when they're doing great competing with Hot 97?

Well you picked pretty safe AM stations...what about 570? 620? 710? 1130? 1190? 1560? Think Radio Disney and Air America will survive? What about WOR and its ancient demos? And on the FM side, what about Family Radio...think they'll sell? What about WBAI and its prime slot in the middle of the FM dial? If anything, I can see one additional station going with some sort of spanish-language format, and I also wouldn't be surprised to see someone take a shot at Lite FM, if 102.7 continues to stick with its classic dance format for a year or two more. Maybe PLJ if its numbers and ad monies get eroded by Jack? Maybe 101.1 if Jack doesn't win over the listeners? Maybe 101.9 will flip to AC instead of going back to Smooth Jazz?

I'm also willing to bet that 96.3 will be unchanged in 5-10 years ;)

Agreed, I don't think oldies will come back, at least on an Infinity station.

Yes, WPLJ will likely stay Hot AC/Adult Hits type of format.

I don't think it will go modern rock. If Jack fails, maybe a "Sunny" like station. "Favorites from 60s, 70s, and 80s"

I think CD 101.9 will remain the same.

I would like 102.7 as an AC to compete with Lite FM, but Infinity may want to continue the battle with KTU. If Jack does succeed, 102.7 will be a regular AC or be more soft ac, like "Sunny 1027 Favorites from 60s, 70s, and 80s".

I don't think WFME will be sold. I also think 1130 WBBR will change formats.
