New York has a NEW DANCE STATION!!!

It is 60 miles north of New York City, in the Hudson Valley, called DRIVE FX

They have been on for some time on WJGK 103.1 HD-2 and WGNY 98.9 HD-2, but have recently popped up on the standard terrestrial side on 94.1 (Orange County) and 95.7 (Dutchess County).

Formatically, this station really blows me away! It is very current, very progressive (house and trance leaning) and at the same time they do play some dance/rhythmic tracks that you can hear on 92.3 Now, 'KTU and Z. The recurrents go as far back as about 10 years or so, and even they are HOT!

If on the Thruway, around Exit 16 (Rt. 17/Harriman) tune in to 94.1 and just after Exit 17 (I-84/Newburgh-Scranton), tune in to 95.7.

Things are REALLY looking up! By 2012, expect more stations to start leaning on dance...the trend is favoring that as a whole.

They're broadcasting on 2 translators so the signals aren't great.

It's good enough if you're in Newburgh or Poughkeepsie. Once you head north towards Kingston or south past Woodbury Commons then you lose it. But for what it's worth, this station is HOT!

The Poughkeepsie translator W239BL applied for a power increase from 10 watts to 250 watts a few months ago but I never saw any follow-up on that.

Thanks for the info! I've been said this many times before, if I'm in the Kingston area, it cannot get a better signal. If I work at my job in New Paltz, I can get 95.7 and it has a good signal, but it cannot reach Kingston. This would bring up some listeners from the loss of the old "Pulse 87" when it was on 87.7 FM. WSPK's "K104" has a good dance leaning CHR station than "Fox Drive FX" hopefully you should check that out.

we already have one its KTU

KTU is a rhythmic adult contemporary station. Yes, they play dance product but their presentation of the format is extremely "safe". Not knocking that because they have been hitting number 1 in the demos that they want. But for dance fans that know more, they are not going to swear to 'KTU as their "dance station". DriveFX, they WILL swear to :)

Oh yeah, K-104 has been LONG considered a dance music friendly CHR, going back before 'KTU actually AND while there was a dance station in the late 90's out of WBPM (Kingston). Their stick IS "killer" (if pirates aren't in the way I can hear it perfectly down here in the Bronx). Even going back to my Marist days, when a certain person on another board was known as Dr. John Barron ;D , I would tune in to K-104 often enough. My college professor in radio was the late Stu Schantz (K-104/'PDH). It is a good station. I would even go so far to think that Kiss 96.1 has been struggling with their format (like the 92.3 Now/Z-100 battle) trying to top K-104.

I'm never knocking K-104 :) They have good people up there and they are a fine station. But I am still GLUED to DriveFX :)

DriveFX Stream quality is very, very poor. A bit more processing would be nice for a dance format. They sounding very flat and uncompressed.

DriveFX, format is nice, I can hear why you're enthusiastic Tony, but the imaging is AWFUL! They really need to work on that!

Agreed with Erwin33 and agreed with DutchGuyOnAir.

I'm trying to get artists to send them "drops", which is a start if artists can take the time to do that. And since their RDS doesn't show the names of tracks (just the frequencies and "Drive FX") perhaps some voicetracking, announcing the tracks and artists, can also help. As far as the audio processing is concerned, I don't think there's much that can be done unless somehow advertisers get involved and they can buy more bandwidth to bring it up to stereo quality.

It's a work in progress now, being that they are on translators as opposed to just HD. But in time I think things will continue to grow for them.
