New York May 2011 PPM's

Wow, I actually beat ol' PJC to the punch for a change with this... :p
http://www.radio-info.com/markets/new-york

This month... Lite leads its closest competitor by over 1 1/2 points - except this time, it isn't CBS-FM, it's Z-100!

And look at WFME, cracking the 1 mark and cume exceeding 300,000 for the first time, what, ever? Speaking of raptures...

Uh-oh, RXP just dropped a tenth of a ratings point after that +0.3 performance, time to flip it!

CBS-FM is still a factor, only .1 behind Z-100. SBS' WSKQ owns a wide lead over Univision's WXNY. It just raises the question if NY can support three full-signal Spanish FMs. SBS should concentrate on strengthening WPAT-FM.

'RXP? They probably still have a strong share in 18-34, so the rock format (whatever that is) probably stays. I still say FLIP IT TO ESPN!

'PLJ is the #3 AC station but they're not going anywhere! As long as they've got the NJ soccer moms in their minivans, they'll be around!

Just my observations! :)

It's about time WLTW dropped the "Lite" from their name. There is nothing lite about them anymore. The other day I was flipping through the presets and heard what I thought was KTU, but when I looked down at the radio it was 106.7. Then the next day they were playing some Usher song that sounded like it should be on Hot 97.

You won't see Lite dropped because the brand is money! Besides, what's "lite" or "soft rock" has changed. The business evolves and formats evolve. That's why Lite will stay lite, Lite 100.5 WRCH Hartford will play Taio Cruz and stay lite, and Lite Rock 105 Providence will play Katy Perry and stay Lite Rock. The brand is valuable, even if it doesn't fit your definition of what the name entails.

"Lite FM": the "jumbo shrimp" of music formats.

(And let's not forget when they play the "lite classic," Boston's "More Than A Feeling"!)

(And let's not forget when they play the "lite classic," Boston's "More Than A Feeling"!)

..... the marquee tune from a collection that consistently shows up whenever a survey is done on the Top Metal Albums of all time.

The song is 35 now years old and crossed quite a few demos in its lifetime (WLTW obviously being the most recent : -) That 'Lite' trademark and its WLTW association started up nine years after the Boston song was a hit.

The completed puzzle may look or sound weird, but the pieces fit.

I don't understand why "More Than A Feeling" keeps coming up - that song is starting to sound "Lite" compared to some of the other stuff they've been playing lately.

In the real world of 25 54, the top 4 stations are all Clear Channel. WLTW, WKTU, WHTZ and WAXQ. Then Fresh, WSKQ, WXNY and, then, off by a full share, CBS-FM.

SBS' WSKQ owns a wide lead over Univision's WXNY.

WSKQ and WXNY are only 0.3 shares apart. That's a statistical tie.

WPLJ is 12th in the sales demo, and WRXP has its second book in a row at 11th.

Family Radio's publicity stunt didn't even benefit them in the ratings that much. To give them credit, this is their best book ever. Next month, expect the worst book ever. I tuned in on May 21 hoping to hear a countdown to the rapture, it was prerecorded programming. 92.3 Now did a better job at covering the "rapture" than Family Radio 94.7.

Just read on the other board that 'CBS actually did better among 18-34 than NOW.

The cume of CBS-FM consists of a high number of accidental listeners... those who listen because they, and their meters, are in a location where a station with a high cume is being listened to. On average, about half of a station's cume listens less than an hour a week, and half of those don't even know what station they were listening to (although the meter does!). The bigger the cume of a station, the more the spillage outside the station target... people who would likely never tune in the station themselves.

WRXP is now #7 18-34, and #11 25-54 in the New York City book. I wouldn't be surprised if they are even stronger in Nassau/Suffolk, and M/S/U. Props to Emmis for sticking with the rock format for several years and various tweaks, as it built an audience.
As the ratings seemed to have improved since Matt Pinfield's show was moved from mornings to mid-days, I wonder whether he will be with the station much longer.
