NEW YORK RADIO LISTENERS....FEEL SORRY FOR YOU!

From the Bay Area (where radio is really quite good) and feel sorry for radio listeners in the Big Apple...The radio dial is weak and it just got weaker with the loss of QCD!

Is it the owners? Is it the programmers? Is it the audience? What is it? How can America's biggest, most prolific city have such a terrible sounding radio landscape? (WCBS being an exception)

Worse, there's No Country, No Smooth Jazz, No true R&B oldies?

Give me a break!!! The NYC market had only ONE rock station for a year and a half, and barely two for years before that!
The format was completely under represented and other formats were way over represented! I love the PPM!!!!

Given the way media and technology's going, maybe for the commercial radio landscape to be going to seed might be actually be a paradoxical sign of the New York market being *ahead* of the game...

Man alive are you ever right on target, when the market was overloaded with hispanic and urban formats no one squaked now finally a few rockers and these anti-rock thugs are up in arms. NYC was the worst place for rock music since NEW-F K-Rock Da Buzz and a few others bit the dust now finally a few rockers and its so bad...no way the PPM's also brought rff and ysp back to life in philly we only had mmr for over a year...like pete townshend wrote long live rock.....

"Be it dead or alive...."

You forget the mantra of the anti-rock crowd: "Even ONE rock station is one rock station too many".

No Radio Market Sucks Like Boston ! If This person feel sorry for NYC , Boston must be in Hell !

I like jazz and the smooth jazz format but you have to admit....what CD101.9 was playing, for at least 50% of the time, was not jazz. For years, they've been getting further and further away from what used to be a good format. Early on, it sounded like the long departed WRVR but, as time went by, we heard more and more Commodores and Dooby Brothers and all sorts of vocals that no one could ever classify as jazz.

It's about time they colllapsed the smooth jazz tent and opened a new rock stand. Hopefully they won't get in the same rut and play the same old stuff over and over.

There's also no Standards station. And WNEW-AM was the best at it.

Thanks,

Perhaps, but I'll take FNX over any of the rock stations in NYC, even RXP.

Have to agree that the Bay is beating the apple right now in overall morning show talent.
