A few odds and ends:

1. What kind of a special was that? I would imagine it's about the Fourth of July, but why air it in October? Did the venerable "Great Pumpkin" special already air? Of course, these days, with a title like that, it could make for some good political talk radio...

2. Hosted by Keith Olbermann? ;D ;D ;D

3A. I remember around that time, 5 ran a ten-minute news brief, followed by Popeye at 2:10. Perhaps they did away with the news brief by this time.
3B. The original poster planted asterisks alongside the program - I wonder what he was going to indicate...

4. Turns out the show is now known as "Cyber-C.O.P.S." From what I read, the producers of the "COPS" TV show forced the producers of the cartoon series to change the name. Kinda like when two "Ghostbusters" cartoons aired at the same time...

FOX must have been brand new at that time. I lived in Utah at the time and there was no FOX station there yet.

Also fun to be reminded of how Johnny Carson was already mailing it in at that point. A whole week of "Best of Carson" just before an election! By that time, it seemed like he was getting 16 or 20 weeks of vacation! Not that he didn't necessarily deserve it, but I particularly disliked it when they went with "Best of.." and preferred a live show with "Johnny's guest host."

All in all, I guess we never realized how good we had it back then. There was a lot of good stuff on TV to watch back in 1988.

Speaking of Carson, guest hosts, and "Best of Carson," the Oct. 24, 1988 hour-long "ALF" special episode (which preempted "Hogan Family" for the evening) was the one where he guest-hosted the "Tonight Show" (with Ed McMahon and Tommy Newsom still on hand, and guests Dr. Joyce Brothers, Joan Embree of the San Diego Zoo, and Pope John Paul II)--and turned the whole show into an ALF clip show to the chagrin of Johnny and the guests:

What wrestling aired on 2am thursdays(horrible time slot for wrestling especially on a weeknight) on WPIX 11? NWA or AWA Wrestling? And both Fox 5 and Ch.9 airing Popeye at 6:30am? i wonder if Fox 5 was already programming WWOR-TV schedule 13 years earlier than 2001?

"This Is America, Charlie Brown" was actually an 8-part mini-series that had the 'Peanuts' characters acting out moments of American history. I think it was rushed into production because of the SAG strike that year. CBS aired the first four episodes weekly during October and November(it premiered on October 21), ran the rest as specials throughout the season, and repeated the whole thing as filler in the summer of 1990. I didn't watch it, because I was in my teens at the time, and had 'moved on' from 'Peanuts' TV shows. Apparently, not too many others bothered to tune in, either.
