New York Vinnie

Off to CBS's new sports FM in Pittsburgh. Partners in the duo of Vinnie & Cook. We wish him the best...

Glad to see him go. Not so much because I dislike him, but ...

A) the NYC thing got real tired. Seattleites are not notorious Yankee fans or, for that matter, fans of anything to do with NYC. That accent and speech impediments was, IMO, grating. Go to Pittsburgh and see how well the "New York" thing goes down.

B) I hear he's a good guy and I'm pleased any time a radio guy gets work. I've spent plenty of time on the beach and more than once travelled across America for a gig.

Good luck, Vinny ... really.

He's off to a decent start here in the Burgh, but I'm not sure how the NY thing will play over time. Seems to be a likeable enough guy who is trying to learn the local teams.

Vinnie was an okay guy. But I too felt the "New York Vinnie" schtick played in Seattle about like "Beantown Frankie" would play in NYC.

In many ways, Vinnie was similar to Wayne Cody. A guy with a schtick doing sports. Sure, some people didn't like his style and voice and some were put off by the "new york" thing.

But Vinnie had more than 15 years of solid success on KIRO-AM; doing morning drive on KJR-AM; and quite a bit of TV work in Seattle. That's a longer track record than most of us in this fickle business can claim.

And, he'd probably still be here and still be successful, if not for that fact that he was put out like the trash by KIRO's new owners.

Of course, that's just one of many blunders by Bonneville: Dumping KBSG before seeing how it would do in PPM (#1 maybe?); moving a heritage news-talk station off of one of the country's great AM signals; Cutting out local shows on nights and weekends; dumping the 30-year "NewsRadio" brand; dumping CBS news; cutting news staff; TBTL; and, most shocking, making all these moves before seeing how things would play out in PPM.

Prediction: Within 3 months, Vinnie will have a better 25-54 share in Pittsburgh than any host in any daypart on KIRO-AM or KIRO-FM.
