NEW YORK'S 106.7FM WLTW PLAYING RAP?

I know that WLTW is not the same station it was 15 years ago when they played mainstream AC. But yesterday around 7:10 they played, "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)" by the C & C Music Factory.

Has the AC format been redefined, what was not AC 20 years ago is AC now or is the station now billing itself as "New York's 106.7 FM testing or expanding its base?

Thanks,
Kevin L. Sealy

No.

More dance, than rap. Rhythmic AC is the "in" thing.

Perhaps a counter so as to not sound stale. (As in "Fresh (102.7).")

Let me know when WLTW plays Uncle Luke ( 2 live Crew ) .

New York doesn't have a true AC station anymore. If they keep this up, 106.7 won't be played in offices and stores anymore, the closest alternative is CD 101.9.

Magic 98.3 in central NJ is a better AC station than either 106.7 or 102.7.

I got four words for you...

"More Than A Feeling"

Now THAT'S "lite" music!

Musically, WMGQ is a true AC and is "lighter" than WLTW and Fresh, but Magic's jocks, jingles, contests are nothing to brag about. If you mix their music with Valerie Smaldone, Al Bernstein, and the WLTW crew, the station wouldn't be that bad. They would just need to play more songs than WMGQ, as Magic's current playlist can burn out quickly... moreso than WLTW's playlist (even though it has become ridiculously broad lately).

Personally, if I had the choice, I'd rather listen to Fresh than to WLTW for soft music. Sometimes, I think Fresh is actually the "Lighter" of the two stations.

The fact is that AC stations are tweaking their music because tastes are changing.
AC's are fast becoming "hits" stations.
Let's move on already.

I think AC is now half AC and Hot AC. And Hot AC is the new Top 40. While current Top 40 is Rhythmic/CHR. Getting back to AC. I believe in some markets they still have their lite AC station. Such as in Hartford, CT Lite 100.5 is still lite. 100 times lite then the old 106.7 lite fm. But I believe this is because their sister station is 96.5 TIC which is Hot AC. So they don't want to overlap. Maybe if Clear Channel had a Hot AC in the market you would hear a totaly different WLTW.

I think the whole definition of what is lite music has totally changed. Supermarket muzak is supposedly true lite music, non offensive to everybody. Last week I heard Kiss' Rock and Roll All Night on muzak. So nothing should surprises me anymore on commercial radio.

What supermarkets play "muzak" these day's? the days of fallig asleep listening to crappy instrumental versions of even crappier AC songs has long gone. I now the company that owns the station I work for, ast year purchased Australia's leading instore music/entertainment provider. They obviously saw something in the business. If you go right into it, the music the supermarket plays changes during the day to suite the different customers that pass through. They have even taylor made it to suite the demographics of the location of the store.

As for AC radio, just one question. What is contempory about Elton John's - Candle I The Wind, or Cyndi Lauper - Time After Time? They have been 10 - 15 year's ago, but the demographic they are chasing has changed, in my opinion.

I noticed that. And here's something I'd like to ask. This may be a LITTLE off topic, but I know that WRCH plays the song "Everybody Plays the Fool" by Aaron Neville. I know that song originally had 2 versions. I think the original was kind of slow, and the more common version was actually a remix. Today, the slow version is rarely played, but Lite Rock 105 in Providence still plays it occasionally, because IT used to be more of a Lite station than it is today. So I think stations that have added it recently, even the softer ones, play the remix. Which version does WRCH play?

With all due respect, that's not rap.

We're all getting older....
