Yup. Just heard the sweeper. "Christmas is coming early this year. Get it. Stay tuned to the new Mix 102-7 for details."

Christmas station

Wow, before Halloween? Next year it might be Labor Day.

BTW- it's been suggested (can't tell you by whom) that there should be an All Christmas station on-the-air year-round somewhere. I imagine it would have to be a fringe signal, operate on a shoestring, etc., but wouldn't it be very, verrrrry interesting to see how they'd do ratings AND revenue-wise?

I have a feeling it will probably be some special contest or something. Maybe all Christmas dance? No, that would be dumb. Very interesting though. I'll keep tuning in.
______________

One thing though, i thought only Clear Channel did the Xmas formats since when did Infinity start the same? Choosing WNEW/Mix 102.7 for all xmas music would be another bad move by Infinity. Here's why, right now they are coming up in ratings and may even beat KTU in ratings for Dance music plus they probably have ex-cbsfm listeners there now for 70s and 80s dance hits that cbsfm played over the years and since Randy Davis is there and starting Thursday Mr G will be there on mornings thats another reason too.Infinity should really chose WCBSFM/Jack for a format like that. Jack in nyc is very terrible and the ratings for CBSFM are the worst they ever were, that's the station that's perfect for it, not WNEW. Wouldn't this be format suicide for them if it was true and not just a contest?

Clear Channel isn't the only company that does this, although I believe Clear Channel was the first to experiment with the format. Was Sunny 104.5 in Philly the first test?

It would be pretty dumb if Mix went All Christmas, especially since they're doing pretty well now. 92.3 should go all Christmas. K Rock's days are numbered, especially since Stern will be leaving.

103.3 WODS/Boston, an Infinity station, has gone all-Christmas the past two years. They concentrate more on Christmas oldies, but throw in some more current-day nuggets. I know there are other non-CC stations that do the format.

I don't think that K-Rock will be flipping the day that Howard Stern leaves. Infinity just spent the past year branding the alternative rock/classic rock format on K-Rock and 104.1 WBCN/Boston, which is a format a bit different from the traditional AOR, concentrating on adding currents from the alternative charts rather than mainstream rock or active rock, even though those charts have quite a bit of overlap. The stations have been holding steady, and I don't think that either station is going to completely fall apart after he leaves. Given the number of Sirius subscribers as a result of Stern leaving, there are still a greater number of listeners not subscribing to Sirius, and will be listening to the terrestrial AM/FM when Stern leaves. Let's not go crazy and start flipping formats yet, let's wait and see what happens...

JACK-FM should go all-Christmas. Maybe they could call it NICK-FM (as in St. Nick)

This can't be. If Mix does go all Christmas, it will be considered a real stupid decision, at least in my opinion.
______________

102.7 was all-Christmas after Blink v2 failed and before Mix launched. Last year, it did not go all-Christmas.
______________

Sounds good to me, too! Bring back more current dance, 'KTU!

But why, after the ratings were just released showing Mix doing well, would they possibly consider switching to all-Christmas??? I'd listen to it, but it seems like it would ruin any momentum they have at the moment!

And the perfect candidate for this? 107.1 or 105.3 on LI, the stations that The Morey Organization completely ruined! (OK, so this should technically be on the LI board, but for those of us who can pick up the signals, all-Christmas, all the time would be preferable over what they turned those stations into...)

You're on the same page as me. I'll listen to Mix if they go all Christmas (I actually listen anyway cuz I enjoy the format) but it isn't the smartest decision. Lite FM will probably beat them anyway. I wonder if WPLJ will go all Christmas again.
