New York's HD Rock Overload!

nd2023

Banned
There are 4 stations with a variant of alternative rock in NYC. 92.3-HD2, 97.1-HD2, 102.7-HD2, 104.3-HD2. Why are they competing for the same 10 listeners who have HD radios and like rock? I wish we had some other HD formats like dance or soft AC available, which would make me listen to my HD radio more than my iPod and Internet streams. The stations invested so much money in their HD transmitters so that people like me could listen. As one of the few people with an HD radio that isn't collecting dust, I feel like the stations should clamor for me to listen to my HD radio rather than let their expensive investments go to waste. When I was in Minnesota a few weeks ago, I barely listened to my iPod, since I mostly listened to dance music on KDWB-HD2.

I think it would make sense to have a dance station at 103.5 HD2 to complement WKTU. Is there a significant difference between the music on WKTU and the Gay Pride station now at 103.5 HD2? I would love a 1955-1963 oldies station at 101.1 HD2 instead of the Jack clone called ToNY. I also liked the classic lite station that was at 106.7 HD2.

Well at least you can't say there is no rock stations in NYC, but I would expect club phusion to be on WKTU-HD2.

Actually you can say that there is no rock stations in NYC as in No rock stations on the Terrestrial Radio HD-1 side of the band when most people do not own HD Radios. I shouldn't be forced to buy an HD Radio to hear current rock.

If someone is really interested in a particular format, I see nothing wrong with making some effort to receive it. HD radios are not really expensive anymore. I feel the modest investment made here to pull in country music on HD (WLTW HD2/WVIP HD3) has been worthwhile. There are a number of other HD channels I enjoy in addition, such as smooth jazz on WEMP HD2, and alternative/active rock on WAXQ HD2.

why is there no DJ"s on HD2 stations. what is the point of an HD radio without a local presents like DJ's and remotes? Its no wonder this thing never gets off the ground. Nobody promotes the thing, there is no jock lineup to promote it, promotions and jock cost even more money invested into the station you say? uh huh. I got that. but seriously. You put all this money into aquireing an HD transmittor, then you get it all sinked up and sounding good on the HD1 side with the anolog. then you run it like ajukebox for the Hd2's and 3's (those that aren't runnin sister AM's), don't promote the thing and put no money into it at all. I'm not a radio head but come on. it jusst seems the HD this way is only halfway there, kinda like going someplace and stoppin for a break and staying there indeffinetly.. to my way of thinking running things this way is bad for everybody involved. so there's a new format on the radio. that's nice. i can do that with my own CD's and Mp3's. with everything else there is out there for entertainment radio needs to reinvent itself, and I personally feel that HD could be a way to do it.

K-rock has jocks but My RXP doesn't (not sure about 102.7 and 104.3 HD2). The Q had David Lee Roth promoting 104.3 HD2 at one point but that's the only promotion I ever heard for a subchannel.. Even worse, RXP's playlist is just as stale as the majority of normal radio channels out there (personally, I find it more narrow than the HD1 version that went off the air). When you have neither the jocks or the variety, what's the point? I don't have an HD radio so this overload doesn't affect me much but I sometimes listen to these channels online.

There is also WFUV HD3, The Alternate Side. They do have jocks and go deeper into the music than the other rock stations in this area. The station plays quite a few local Indie bands. WNYE 91.5 simulcasts The Alternate Side 6am-noon on weekdays.
