Has anyone noticed the new morning show on 1330 in Y-town???

Dan Gonder spinning the music and John Nagy doing the NEWS!!!

I have listened several times and it is good to hear both of them on the Air again!!

I haven't been in in the market lately, but recently heard the oldies format from afar. When did 1330 drop news/talk?
I concur with W8YSU's assessment. IMO, Nagy is a great newsman who got the shaft from Cheap Channel. Gonder is also a welcome presence on the dial.
I don't suppose the owner would be willing to resurrect the WHOT calls for 1330? Wishful thinking, perhaps...but a cool idea.

WHOT exists today: they're on 101.1, owned by Cumulus. Adult CHR/CHR.

Was over in Warren on Tuesday midday and LOVED the music on 1330. The audio processing was fantastic: just like the great AM stations in the 60's and 70's. Wonder if Wes Boyd is doing any engineering consulting? Sounds just like the old WHOT 1330 back then. Love it!

I believe 1330 is owned by 1500/101.9...right?

Nice to hear that John Nagy is back on the air. As I think WKBN is just one more outlet fed from Clear Channel Cleveland's newsroom (along with "FM News Talk 104.7" in Pittsburgh and some others), it's nice to hear a class act can be found elsewhere. A shame AM 1330 is not receptable down this way (too close to WJAS-1320), but perhaps I can catch him when I travel up that way in June.

Yeah, I'm familiar with Hot 101, but it's not exactly my cup of tea. What I have in mind is to return the WHOT calls to 1330 along with some vintage jungles and perhaps an old HOT jock or two. I don't know about anybody else, but I'd listen.

I wouldn't be surprised if "Wes The Mess" is involved. The last time I knew of his whereabouts, he was doing engineering work for Cumulus.

I haven't kept up with the status of 1330's owner. Holding company Bernard recently owned it and the two aforementioned stations. My understanding at the time was that they were looking to sell.

I don't think WHOT's owners Cumulus would allow a station they do not own to use their call letters (even by adding FM to 101.1's calls and another AM being just WHOT)....that's what I meant.

WGFT 1330 does stream the new oldies format.

When I was over there Tuesday, I listened for about 90 minutes, and it was about 75% 1970's, 25% 60's oldies. When listening to the stream later that evening it was about 75% 1960's, 25% '70's music. Very odd balance.

Personally, I'm sick of hearing the same few hundred 1960's oldies these past, what: 50+ years. I much prefer 70's and a few early 80's...but, that's just me.

hey Tim, Gary Rhamy and his wake up club has been playing this kind of format along with the rest of the staff of WHTX 1570 and WYCL 1540 for almost a year now, (Simulcast on both stations) and they too dip into the 50's like the Platters, Fats Domino, thru the 60's, and 70's with great jingles and they cover many counties like Portage, Mahoning, trumbull, Summit, Ashtabula, and was in Alliance on Tuesday and they came in crystal clear on 1570. Nothing like good oldies music on AM radio-it does remind me of CKLW, WGAR, KDKA, and WOWO in the 70's at night.

While in the Youngstown area on businessTuesday, I briefly stopped by 1570/1540 and met Louie Free (hope I have the spelling right!) and Gary. Both seem like great guys. Also met Jim Davison's business partner Laurel (again, hope I have the name right)......nice lady.

People like them and Chris Lytle are saving medium and smaller mostly AM stations from simply going dark. It's kind of ironic there's more creativity on these smaller stations than the mostly cookie-cutter, rather dull FM music stations who are owned by big radio chains.

It's great there's a place for both types of radio stations: locally owned, and chain-owned.

I would listen occasionally in the office, but now they have talk in the mid day. So not interested. But this station does seem to play Dionne Warwick - Heartbreaker as often as WHOT is playing One Direction.
