Newburgh and Poughkeepsie Arbs

Alright boys and girls... Arbitron ratings for both Newburgh and Poughkeepsie come out tomorrow. Any ideas?

And let's remember that what you will see tomorrow, unless you have access to all of Arbitron's data, will only be the useless 12+ numbers. Well, I can't say they're completely useless... people can use them for bragging rights, but clients never buy from those numbers.

And in case you're wondering, you have to work for a radio station or know someone who does to get access to the demographic breakdowns.

I'm looking forward to this, but as of last Spring, the Arbitron ratings system had a lists of stations according to the Radio & Records site that WBPM was labeled oldies instead of classic hits as well as the owner Clear Channel instead of Pamal. Along with that they usually put WRWD-FM/WRWD-AM instead on WRWD and WCZX/WZAD was shown instead of WCZX. That was last Spring when that Arbitron Newburgh/Poughkeepsie book came out.

Let's hope if they put this up tomorrow, we'll find out! Is WBPM is going down again from a 1 share to a no share? Or if there is going to be a change very soon? Time will tell.

Disney disney, you REALLY need to learn to READ.

Arbitron has nothing to do with how the stations get listed. They get told by the stations themselves.

As far as 12+ in these two markets vs. demos, quite frankly the top of the ratings heap 12+ is almost always some combination of wpdh, whud and wspk which are also the top billers...you can talk all you want about females 18-34, males 25 to 34 , whatever the demo your station needs to feel good about itself...I don't care how you slice it up, the sales guys selling the flamethrowers getting the 10 shares 12 + are making 6 figures , while the bottom feeders 12+ are struggling to sell their prime demos....down the road in NYC where the agency buys figure in greater and the level of sophistication among the buyers and clients is greater, yes, it does matter (WFAN"S $'s over the years have been enormous even though they are never big 12 +) but, please, in the hudson valley, it's the guys selling those bog sticks at the top of the 12+ numbers that are laughing their way to the bank.....by the way new2board, most of us know how the arb data works, and believe it or not, some of us boys and girls have even been to Columbia Maryland and looked first hand, many times, at those inaccurate, pieces of junk known as Arbitron diaries.....and just a side note....Disney...for the love of God...please don't mention anything about B94.3 in Pittsburgh

The links to the 12+ numbers are down below for those who haven't dug into them yet...

Not too much of a surprise - WHUD is first; WSPK is second; WPDH is third; and WABC is fourth.

Slip on the keyboard, sorry folks. WSPK is number one, beating WHUD in the 12+.

Goodness, I think I slipped on the typing because I couldn't believe how low the numbers have gone on some stations in the Newburgh-Middletown market.

Anyway, it seems as though many of the stations from The City of New York have seen some gains...

Looks like WRWD is number 1, if click the link. Actually the small pea shooters did quite well... good showings from WRNQ and WPKF!

for N-M looks like HUD lost right into the hands of GNY. Not sure why WRWD was up so much in PK, considering they went down in N-M.

Nothing else overly worth mentioning. WSPK and WHUD pretty much lead the way as usual.

Indeed, WRWD received some amazing numbers in Poughkeepsie, but it seems as though 94.3/97.3 "The Wolf" has cut into their market in Newburgh-Middletown market.

I looked up in the fall book that WBPM is way down. Come on here! Can't you guys give me a break. "Classic Hits 92.9" is hurting WPDH, what's going on? They played too much album rock cuts that wasn't even a hit? CBS-FM does better in New York City except in OC at 105.7 playing the same station. Can't you fix it? This is the first time that WBPM is going nowhere in the ratings since last year where Pamal took over from the ill-fated CC when it flipped from oldies last year.

WBPM is playing too much album rock like Styx, Queen, Supertramp, Pink Floyd and others, and no Motown cuts from the 60's, that's too much rock, but it's going to hurt WPDH. I think the numbers is going nowhere, I guess this station needs a greatest hits format and it will call it "Greatest Hits 92.9" instead of "Classic Hits 92.9", they should play a bunch of Motown songs from the 60's like the Four Tops, the Supremes, the Temptations, Stevie Wonder, the Jackson 5 and many others, yes and play a few R&B cuts like the O'Jays, Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, Kool & the Gang and so many others, don't play the rock hits, it doesn't work on this station. Forget Randy Turner, the Ran Man and get rid of the Electric Morning show, we need more personality and bring Tom Kent back. That's my rant on WBPM.

Anyway, enough of that, but WRWD is a big winner in the ratings, finally #1, but it still competing with "The Wolf", but I like "The Wolf" a lot better, but it's doing okay. Brandy Hunter, Buzz Stevens and Beth Christy are great for this station, but I love station that plays Carrie Underwood, I love Carrie so much, but I have her new CD.

You mean WBPM in Kingston probably the original at 94.3 when it was "B-94" (not the one in Pittsburgh)? Pittsburgh already has it on WBZW at 93.7, but "B-94" is not coming back to the Hudson Valley anytime soon. I missed WBPM's original "B-94" when it was top 40.

How do you spell headache??

Randy Turnip's trainwreck is in the dumper. The wolf is in the dumper and will stay there... fickle country fans will stick with WRWD.....

The thing about the book is....unless your station is a complete failure like the 2 I mentioned, everybody wins sometime and in some demo group......

Flame on....

I have to tell you guys, WBPM is #1 25-54 in Ulster County. This is an Ulster station and one it's home county. BPM sounds pretty good, a little weird sometimes but a least they're trying to do something. They have an actual human being selecting songs, sometimes they're wrong, but hey, at least someone is taking the time to make the effort. That's more than I can say for the corporate stations.

Are you kidding? WBPM is not #1, WRWD is #1 in 25-54, WBPM is way down. Enough already, we've been said this a million times.

Which is pretty much what all those endless, self-praising promos on 'BPM say, which are written and voiced by "aka. the Ran-Man"

I don't even especially like BPM, but I do give them credit for trying something different.

And Dopey, I mean disney, BPM is #1 in the fall book in Ulster county. Poughkeepsie 12+ ratings mean absolutely nothing.

Great book from LITE. Nice work in what has to be an miserable environment. Keep it up guys, CC will be gone eventually and hopefully you get an owner in that appreciates what you accomplish with zero resources. Imagine what might be possible with management that actually gave a crap.

Thanks a lot hv-steve for pointing it out! I don't see the numbers for BPM in the Arbs if you look in the Ulster book. I wish CC will be selling off their stations very soon if one of them should go to a greatest hits/oldies format like CBS-FM did last year and compete with BPM and maybe they should play a number of Motown songs as you can with this format.

What's going to happen with CC? Maybe "Lite-FM" did okay, "Kiss-FM" still does okay competing with K-104 with some rhythmic approach along with numerous R&B songs, but I don't know how long if the CC stations last? You'll see.

Last year when Goodradio decided to take over CC, that's not going to happen. I hope if one of the new owners are going to take over all of the CC HV cluster like Galaxy, Regent, Entercom, Citadel or any owner would get, it's your best hope.
