AllAccess reports:

"STATON BROADCASTING INC. today signed on its sixth station, WMRZ (98.1 ZACK FM)/ALBANY, GA. The 25k station is licensed to DAWSON, GA and began broadcasting today at 10:52a (ET). The "Contemporary Variety" station is broadcasting under the moniker "It's All About The Music," and we're told listeners can expect to hear everything from ETTA JAMES' "At Last" to "Walk This Way" by RUN-DMC."<P ID="signature">______________

Given that Albany, Georgia is a relatively small market, I wonder if WMRZ-98.1 is running the satellted-fed "Sam" format from Westwood One (which is supposed to be a satellite-fed version of the "Jack"-type formats).

Well, then wouldn't they be calling it "Sam-FM??"

Not only that, but the cost of running in house automation is becoming more and more affordable, so the need for a sattlelite feed is greatly reduced, unless they're owned by, or on a joint venture with Westwood one.<P ID="signature">______________

Jackson, MS is a small market as well, and it has a licensed JACK-FM. In this case, it's "Zack FM", which is awfully close in name, but not the same.

By the same token, it's definitely not WW1's SAM Radio format, either, since all SAM (Simply About Music) stations have the SAM name (since they go 50/50 with the general liners and the specific local liners with the frequency).

This is what Bob Perry would call a clone station. "It's All About The Music" is the station's positioning statement. It has a Variety Hits format, but you can see the danger of using the "Jack" name as a generic title for the format (especially for a station called Zack!)<P ID="signature">______________
