Newly discovered SDR in Haida Gwaii, BC

Something from the far east was coming in quite well on 720 about 7:40CDT. Maybe crainbebo knows what station this is.
Also trying for Fairbanks on 660, but got Calgary instead. KINY coming in well as I would expect. Wonder what that 720 was?

The 720 from Asia may have been North Korea. I had them yesterday on Haida Gwaii // 657khz.
 
The time allowed on the receiver is now limited to 30 minutes in a 24-hour period. I was on briefly this morning, then got timed out after 18 minutes this evening. At least for this time of year, mornings are far more interesting.
 
And you can add me to those who heard the english lessons....and didn't know what I was hearing at first. :)
 
English lessons are heard all week long on NHK Radio 2. They are easy to hear on 747 JOIB (Sapporo), 774 JOUB (Akita), 828 JOBB (Osaka) and 693 JOAB (Tokyo). Relatively easy on 873 JOGB (Kumamoto), also on 702 JOKD Kitami.
The sign-off with the Japanese national anthem and music box is always a treat. I should be able to also hear them on 1017 Fukuoka with 50KW, JOLB. Had 1089 JOHB, 1125 JOAD Naha and one of the 1593's the other morning.
 
Lots of Alaskans around 11AM CDT. Homer on 890, Fairbanks on 660, and KNOM. Even KGO was still making it. The trans pacific stuff was mostly fading out, but I heard a few faintly.
 
These reports remind me so much of my DX sessions from central Alaska in 1986, near Nenana.

Some of the crazier stuff included CIGO-1410 Nova Scotia, KTBB-600 Tyler TX, 7AD-900 Tasmania, some Aussies in the 1600s, etc. - also almost sure KILE-1400 Galveston...and, one morning Sioux City/Peoria fighting on 1470 - and all of this was in AUGUST!

Sometimes sat and listened to JOWF-1440 Sapporo, they were a great Top 40 station at the time.
 
And while JOWF-1440 is very strong mornings in northern BC, I've never heard them here and it would be hard to even with good conditions. I have the two Oregons and CKJR in the way.
 
I don't know if it's Korea (1.5 million watts) or China (100 kw) coming in on 972 right now – 7:26 a.m. CT – but by going to narrow AM and 973 to get rid of a het, it's almost clear as a bell with music and talk.
 
It's Korea. It's still blasting in at 9:40 am CST.
 
HLCA Dangjin, KBS, with a whopping 1500kw of power. I hear them all the time in WA.

i can hear 972 HLCA barefoot on my cc skywave portable at the top of the KSKO driveway in McGrath, Alaska most mornings. usually peaks for 30 secs to 2 minutes and a time on and off during the morning before sunrise.

I have a gary debock fsl loop and a pk's loop on the way, that inductively couple to my radio... those should make my reception gangbusters.. and crainbebo, if youre familiar with my giant loop antenna i used in wyoming, i have parts on the way to rebuild that here on the KSKO front lawn

If i can get that big loop up, i will have both north and south korea and japan so strong on mediumwave itll sound liek locals
 
Very interesting evening on the SDR. Started listening around 10:00pm CST. Several carriers/weak signals coming in from Europe. Absolute Radio 1215 was the most consistent with their typical rock music program. Also heard weak talk on 1296 and 1386 among others.

The most interesting thing I heard was NRK1 from Longyearbyen, in the Norwegian island of Svalbard. At 10:20pm CST heard rock/pop music and Norwegian talk, fadey but readable at times. I then switched over to the Arctic SDR and the same signal was quite strong. My wife, who speaks Norwegian, confirmed what I was hearing. Pretty cool, only 1 kw (or 3 depending on reference!) at 3,200 miles over the pole!

Edit: also ID'd Lithuania carrying Radio Poland on 1386 via // with Arctic SDR. ID in English and Polish at 11:00pm CST.

Some high noon PST skywave for me today (11/29)....

First of all, big signals from Anchorage and Vancouver pretty much all present. Seattle represented as well with a weak KIRO and an even more weak KOMO. Multiple signals from the southern reaches of interior Alaska as well.

But the big surprise came on 720. KFIR from Sweet Home, Oregon. 10kw with a very weak steady signal, but I did get a positive ID. That's a hop of slightly over 1,100 miles.
