Newly discovered SDR in Haida Gwaii, BC

No TA signals tonight. Albeit the Vo. Islamic Republic of Iran 6075 (in Pashto) and BBC 6195 from Oman (in Dari) are very strong.
KCNZ-1650, KBGG-1700 and KXEL-1540 in Iowa all in.

Some high noon PST skywave for me today (11/29)....

First of all, big signals from Anchorage and Vancouver pretty much all present. Seattle represented as well with a weak KIRO and an even more weak KOMO. Multiple signals from the southern reaches of interior Alaska as well.

But the big surprise came on 720. KFIR from Sweet Home, Oregon. 10kw with a very weak steady signal, but I did get a positive ID. That's a hop of slightly over 1,100 miles.

I also heard KFIR on that receiver at night and I heard them on the Hawaii receiver last week. They've obviously been ignoring their nighttime power.

I tried today 11/30, but no KFIR. I did hear daytime skywave from the Seattle stations and Anchorage on 750. Also, KGO was coming in.

KFIR-720 in now on daytime skywave (2:40PM PT); CBX-740 and a few other Alberta stations; have two mixing on 1050, not sure who they are but one is likely KBLE Seattle.
KPNW-1120 w/ Lars Larson
Someone under KIFW-1230 (not // KVAK Valdez, possibly something in WA?)
CKMK 1240 MacKenzie BC w/ classic rock // stream 99.3 the Drive. About 390mi. Mixed with KBUP Olympia WA, variable from poor to fair // 1050 KBLE
KBAM-1270 Longview WA - big signal, '93.5 K-BAM'
KIT-1280 Yakima w/ Sean Hannity. KZFS Spokane under with hip hop
KYSP-1340 Wenatchee WA strong with Fox Sports
KSUH-1450 Puyallup with Korean music // stream

After I heard KFIR yesterday (11/29). I tried 1120 for KPNW. I did hear a very faint signal, but it was totally unintelligible. So I had no idea what it awas. I was a little surprised because I thought KPNW with more power higher up on the dial would certainly be in if KFIR was. I went back to 1120 a couple of times, but with the same result.

As for your 1050 mixing, I'm wondering if your second station could have been CJNB from North Battleford, SK. 10kw country music station. I think I might have had them a couple of weeks back closer to local sunrise, but I couldn't get a positive ID.

Interesting one heard 12/2 at 2:00pm CST, 1080 KOAN Anchorage with a strong signal playing Regional Mexican music. Played 2 songs without a break, then clear ID in English. I now read that the station was sold and the old conservative talk format will be replaced by Spanish religion.

Yup, KOAN flipped recently.
Didn't listen a lot last night, but JOHR-1287 (HBC) Sapporo was S9+10 around 1:30am PT, and their relay on 1449 wasn't doing that bad either.

Listened very late last night, around 2:45-3:15AM PT (1045-1115z). Then went to a long-awaited bed and slept!

New (personal) logs include
1593 CNR-1 Changzhou (400KW)
1575 AFN Iwakuni (1KW - English DJ talk into Lorde 'Team') IDs as "Power 1575". Mixed w/ CNR1 and another Chinese
1323 China Radio International (Huadian transmitter 600KW - Korean)
1323 China Radio International (Shuangyashan transmitter 200KW - Russian) both slopping away
1305 HLSV Uljin (KBS1, 10KW) // 1062 HLKQ
1215 CNR-2 Shenyang (20KW) // 6155khz SW
963 China Radio International (Huadian transmitter 600KW - Russian)

Plus had a massive signal from Yanbian RGD on 1205.98 (off from 1206khz). Love the Asian propagation here.

Excellent catches--congrats!

Wow. Hopefully there was no subsequent surge that fried something. If replacement parts are needed, that might not be a speedy task, given the remote location.

Back up and running as of when I checked just a couple of minutes ago, 1:45 CST/1945 UTC.

Never heard the TP conditions this good on Haida Gwaii. DXed last night from about 1-2am PT. Band loaded with DX and *strong*. Many stateside AMs nowhere to be found, including CBK-540...wiped out by both multiple NHK1's echoing AND CNR1's echoing! Both personally new.

On 1602, 1KW and 100w NHK-2's from Japan came in, but heavy splatter from KVRI was prevalent. At 1593 was JOQB Niigata with // 1602. 1584 was // 594 and about S7. These NHK1 relayers all over the country are only 100 watts!!
At 1575 I had an AFN (or two), one was likely Misawa. I heard a military PSA with a local phone number, 226-XXXX. At 0200 PT they went into ABC news and I could clearly hear the sounder. Meanwhile, an interesting Chinese station kept fading up. At one point they were playing Chinese rock from Wang Feng. This is likely one of the local Chinese outlets as CNR 1 and 2 were not // on SW.
I've never heard HLAZ that strong on 1566...they were S9+25 and strong enough for wide mode! Meanwhile an unid Japanese was heard on 1530 right under KFBK. Then a Chinese under NHK1 (JOUK Akita) on 1503. That's never been heard before.
Down to 819 where KCBS Pyongyang was S9, with an angry female yelling away in Korean.
Opened up a Japan SDR in Nagano for some parallels on some of the regional JJ channels. Was able to ID JOCR-558 Kobe, a local outlet, and their relay on 1395 (JOCE Toyooka, only 1kw) the same way. Lively discussion with several hosts. Then had JOWE Aizuwakamatsu, a local Fukushima station, also 1KW mixing and // to a Nagano SDR and their 1485 simulcast elsewhere on Fukushima.
IDed KBS-1 on 1341 (Gimpo) for a new one // 711-HLKA Seoul. Also CNR1 was new on 1359, right up against KKMO but // to shortwave relays.
At 1233khz, JOGB Aomori (RAB network) came in with some traditional Japanese pop music. I was able to // this one as well with the Japan SDRs. That's new to the personal logs and 1233 hasn't had a log yet.
JOWM-1071 is new to personal logs as well. The Obihiro relay of JOHR-1287, HBC Sapporo, mixed with the NHK1.

New logs down low include JOIP-639 Oita (NHK1), JOKK-603 Okayama (NHK1), JOOG-603 Obihiro (NHK1 both echoing), JOHG-576 Kagoshima (NHK1), and FINALLY...AFN 810 the Eagle Tokyo! Had ABC News about 5 seconds ahead of KGO at the 2am TOH. Then went into some military PSA and around 2:04 PT, could faintly hear 'AFN The Eagle' IDed. This is awesome, I've been looking for this one on Haida. Amazing it made it through the strong KGO signal but it did!

Lots of recordings I'll try to put up soon. :)

Congratulations on what clearly was a great DX session! AFN "crashing" a strong signal ON 810 from KGO is especially impressive IMHO.

And here's some files from the last DX at Haida. Some of them have a burst of 'static' around a minute in. Free version of Total Recorder does that and I have never upgraded to a paid version.

Also on 1/4/21, I heard multiple TA stations on Haida. Some included TalkSPORT 1053 and Absolute Radio UK on 1215, but I also had Jil FM 531 Algeria and TRT Radyo 1 Turkey on 1062!! Clips attached

What crazy DX!! I had some of that type of reception from between Fairbanks and Nenana in 1986, but it's EXPECTED there - after all, it's halfway to Japan from Illinois. Even from there I didn't hear 100-watters from Japan (though I did hear a 400-watt New Zealand on 1170 under KJNP's open carrier). Because it was in August, though, the Australians ruled, usually - I think I logged 106 of them.

I heard five Australians from Michigan in the 1963-65 era and I wonder what would have been possible with a LONGWIRE instead of a loop at the time. Being on a northeast corner, though, the right directions weren't open to me at all. With another fantasy longwire I surely could have cleaned-up with Brazilians and other deep South American stuff. Maybe even southern Africa...

An interesting off-topic observation is that it is VERY easy to hear Alaskans from Hawai'i. 750 and 780 came in on a mediocre car radio.
