Newman & Roper Out at Mix 100.7 & 970 WFLA

Amy Newman and Dennis Roper were fired over the accidential airing of a Tropical Storm Alberto update on 100.7 that contained Roper dropping the "F" word. I feel bad for Amy who apparently didn't preview the track, however rules are rules. Guess this proves that just because the computer is doing half the work during your shift doesn't mean you should get lazy. As far as Dennis is concerned, he should of known better than to ever curse while in a studio or around open mics. You just don't know who's listening or where that audio might end up.

Does every station have this zero tolerance policy or is it just Clear Channel. I wonder how the on-air talent feel about this? If it is a policy exclusive to CC, I think that if I were in a position like that I would be looking for a job with a Clear Channel competitor as soon as possible. I mean if CC isn't going to show their talent any loyalty and give them the benefit of the doubt when it was an accident or not their fault, I don't think Clear Channel can expect to keep their top talent with that constant threat over their heads. Makes me glad I'm just a listener.

Who wrote the $750K check to the FCC? I though so.... They get to call the shots. Had Bubba wrote the check, he could call the shots. Last I heard, Bubba is on some satellite channel where nobody listens to him...

So did Ryan Seacrest get fired when he let a **** go over the air? Or how about Kid Kraddick?
And how does Elliot seem to keep his job in DC with all his fines ( and for the record I think he should keep his job)?
The CC Zero Tolerance only seems to apply to certain employees.

Cowhead... you are absolutely correct. Amy Newman may be a great talent, but she's not on the "protected species" list. I'm not a conspiracy theory guy, but c'mon... If someone on MJ's show dropped the f bomb in the same manner, would MJ get cut loose? F no!

I totally agree as well. There has to be a list of talent that get far more leeway. Schnitt could probably flat out say "F" at 3:45 in the afternoon (I do realize there's a delay on that station that should prevent it) but still have a job. Amy, although at fault for being the operator of the station at the time, should have probably been cut just a little slack. Maybe a suspension instead? However, the line was drawn when Cowhead was cut a few months ago. As far as the budget goes (cause we all know that is king), I bet we don't see a replacement for Amy anytime in the near future. Welcome to more automation and hey... another full time salary gone.

Question for Cowhead

I don't know the total story of what happened, but I am curious as to the fate of the engineer who improperly installed a delay (if that part of what I hear was even true - if not please set me straight.) In my opinion (again, this is just based on what info I do have) is it right when a talent goes through the procedure of hitting the dump button and it doesn't work. Should the blame be placed on him or on the engineer who didn't put the thing in right or didn't repair it when it was working improperly. This is a question that I've had jumping around my mind the last few weeks.

I bet he would. He is so replaceable on WFLA and WIOD by moving Sean Hannity to a 3 PM live slot, which is what happened on WOAI. As for his morning drive slots, Clear Channel could pop a syndicated show in or bring in another one of their morning shows.

i agree with cowhead too. shame that there is such bs politics in radio, but thats how they roll. and by the way, amy was never full time, she was part time so you can expect to see another PARTTIMER in there doing a fulltimers job at half the cost and even less respect!
