Newport Television Sale Update

The Newport Television sale was announced today... looks like WSYR, WETM and WIVT are going to Nexstar.

No sale yet for WHAM or WXXA, likely because these stations, especially WHAM, are worth more sold separately. Also we have to assume because Nexstar and others already own stations in these markets. I could see Providence selling the remaining 5 to a strong station group with deeper pockets, possibly Hearst Television?

As mentioned in another post I just could not envision Nexstar trying to purchase WHAM TV here in Rochester; especially since Nexstar already owns Channel 8 -WROC TV.

With WHAM's dominance in the Rochester market, a prospective buyer better have deep pockets because Channel 13 won't be sold at a bargin basement price.

Could LIN Media be interested in buying WHAM (ABC) & WXXA (Fox) anyway? I know so far, LIN owns WIVB/WNLO, plus on top that, they recently purchased the New Vision stations as well.
